*Charlie Regis, an agent of the city’s all-seeing secret police, finds himself blackmailed with the lives of his unborn children. Pushed to the limits by his deceit and his past, how far is he willing to go to save his legacy?
*Latha Sesame, a jobless agoraphobe addicted to the Trance, has become targeted for assassination. Without knowing who to trust, she must face the dangers of “meatspace” and survive a fate that has invisibly ruled her entire life.
*Max Lao, a tech-savvy case officer who joined CEL to forget her criminal past. Now she finds herself torn between two loyalties. When she’s asked to apprehend her best friend and partner, she must choose to follow her friend or the law.
As these three struggle to save themselves, they will soon discover a string of conspiracies that threatens not only their lives, but everything they think they know.

Could Have Been The Best...

TechnoBabylon is one of WadjetEye’s more recent releases and was developed by a third party. Now, WadgetEye certainly has an ‘eye’ (pun) for quality and they deserve a massive amount of credit for getting this game released. That said, while Technobabylon is certainly a good game, it has its flaws. -- Pros -- * The best thing about TechnoBabylon is its world building. This is perhaps the best adventure game in this respect alone. The way in which the developers designed the future is not only believable, but actually has a real impact on the way you think about things. That said, it does take time to grasp many of the concepts and you do have to remember quite a bit in order to fully comprehend the story and even many of the puzzles. Honestly, this is one of those games that is way ahead of its time – even for the sci-fi genre. * Many of the puzzles are really well-thought out. -- Cons -- * Unfortunately, while the story is in fact very complex and well woven, the pacing is quite unbalanced. The fact is, while you understand the story, it’s not as emotional and impacting as the developers probably would have liked. In fact, none of it really makes sense until near the very end – and by that time you’re not really impressed with the “twists”. It seems like the world was designed for something far greater than what the story provides. * While not all the puzzles are bad, some are a bit illogical or just plain silly. There are moments in the game where you think the developers ran out ideas. For example, in one part of the game, you literally have nowhere else to turn until you backtrack and then suddenly a new character pops out of nowhere to give you the additional piece. This wouldn’t be a problem if it didn’t feel so forced. -- Conclusion -- For all its flaws this is a good game and worth playing. That said, you do get the impression it fell short of being a masterpiece. Unfortunately, that feeling is part of the reason for it not being rated higher.

Old Gamer (40) enjoyed this

Excellent story, great characters, great puzzles; and excellent pacing (something I apricate as an older gamer). Highly recommend for any point and click fan. Old Gamer approved

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would

Very cool game, I'm not normally very excited about these kinds of games but this one is very nice and well worth the play (especially if you consider yourself a point and click puzzle game aficionado). The story is interesting and worldbuilding is very nuanced for a relatively short plot, the characters have their own particular mannerisms and slang they use etc. Music and voice acting is very good, puzzles are very interesting (most of them anyway, there was only one that I hated). It's very cool that you play as several characters and the gameplay intertwines at points and develops the story, there's quite a lot of dialogue - nice. As far as what I've played, this might be my favourite game in the genre. All things considered, five stars.

Serviceable at best.

I would like to say that Technobabylon is yet another great point'n'click from Wadjet Eye Games, but it has too flawed puzzle design and quite a few narrative issues to make me do so. The story is a yet another cliche'd dystopian cyber-punk fantasy with intellectually impotent theme of the man's consciousness explained through the lens of the materialistic reductionism. Not saying that it's a flaw within itself, but it's lazely done. After the first two story acts, I already knew the message and how it will end (two different endings which consequences are the same) - despite giving an impression that the writers were going somewhere with it, it doesn't expand beyond what S. Lem's works exploiting the theme decades ago. As it goes, the story is covered with too many logical gaps, inconsequences and straightforward shameless plot devices, I was getting more and more annoyed with every next scene. A fine example is the initial theme of non-stop security surveillance and it affect on both the gameplay and the narrative - Regis hates being watched and messes with the Central all the time, destroying cameras. Our female protagonist needs to get rid of the camera in a waiting room, etc. For the gameplay-puzzle sake, this was abandoned in the restaurant bomber investigation, where conveniently there were absolutely no cameras at all - they're removed from the world building equation all together, so a point on the adventure game's checklist could be checked out - an old fashioned investigation puzzle. Gameplay breaks the narrative's integrity. Other times, it's the narrative who breaks logics of the gameplay - the fake drama at the very end, where Regis decides to sacrifice himself where there's absolutely no reason for him to do - conveniently their surroundings are ignored. The puzzles themselves are pretty basic and mostly involve "use X on Y" and rarely present any real challenge. It's not a bad game, it gave me enough point'n'click fix to recommend it. It's decent.

I liked Technobabylon very much.

For me, it is not only an excellent point-and-click game, but also, even 7 years after its release, one of the best cyberpunk adventures ever. On par with classics like Blade Runner and Beneath a Steel Sky or newer games like Whispers of a Machine. Techobabylon fits very well into the excellent portfolio of Wadjet Eye Games. + The story is exciting and thrilling, + The protagonists are likeable and portrayed with a certain depth, + The world in which Technobabylon is set is well and credibly depicted, + The puzzles are well balanced, not too difficult but also not too easy. You should be able to do it without a walkthrough. The game also gets by largely without stupid, annoying, isolated logic and patience games/puzzles, as they are unfortunately used as gap-fillers in many adventure games today. + The background graphics, dialogue faces and character sprites are excellently and atmospherically drawn. This once again shows the top quality in this respect that Ben Chandler contributes to numerous Wadjet Eye games. + The sprites are very well animated, + The voice acting is very well implemented and fits perfectly into the game, + The music is atmospheric and absolutely cyberpunk worthy. I do have to make a few small quibbles: - There are hardly any cutscenes that do not take place within the normal game perspective/engine. - There are few spatial perspective changes in the game. Everything takes place in rooms with the same perspective and distance from the sprites. Sometimes larger rooms and distances, different perspectives would have done well. - It would have been nice if there had been a proper city map for orientation. The game is almost perfect from my point of view. I can recommend it to everyone who is interested in cyberpunk, likes suspenseful thrillers, likes point-and-click adventures or wants to try one for the first time, and is open-minded enough for beautiful pixel graphics and a good portion of social diversity.
