The Good Game
The game with interesting ideas. Basically, features mechanics of reload. It have place for hardcore and repetitive in gameplay of roguelike games. Pretty for eyes visual style. I'm still enjoying the game and will more, i think. WE NEED REMAPING of CONTOLLER IN THE GAME. PLEASE.

Great game but far from perfect...
The GOG version is missing the free Arena DLC, also, it's made in Gamemaker so expect A LOT of game breaking bugs. If you're good at the game expect to get soft-locked a lot in solo mode and a lot of CTD's in co-op. PS: Turn off auto-sorting from options, that's probably the most likely thing to cause a soft-lock.

Almost like Seth said it would be, but-
Synthetik is no doubt a memorable game, but there are a few things that hold it back: 1) There a bit too much "lite" in this "rogue-lite." There are nine classes, and the upgrades that they get from being played are significant. It makes it so that if you want to beat the final boss (which I haven't), you're encouraged to grind one class rather than experiment. That strikes me as poor design. I also just don't like the idea that it's time commitment, rather than skill and luck, that hold me back. 2) Balance. Some guns feel just useless; not even good for niche builds. Likewise, it seems like the classes don't all scale the same, both through a single run and in the meta-game. Finally, while Synthetik definitely wants to be a "break the game to win the game" kind of game, there are some heavy-handed balance decisions that feel like they pump the brakes. For example: there's a weapon mod called "caliber reduction" that increases magazine size at the cost of damage. Yet it arbitrarily doesn't work on the single-shot rocket launcher. Nor, in fact, do ANY multi-shot mods or magazine size increases work on the rocket launcher. Stuff like that is a buzzkill. 3) Multiplayer is just not really a whole game. It feels like a demo, even though, on Steam, it's payment-locked while the single-player mode is free! Maybe my brother and I were just doing something wrong, but the game just always ended after like three enemy waves, often with the game freezing. 4) No lore. Yeah, beating a dead horse, but the devs have a good thing goin' here with the game's tone. I wish there was just like some flavor text on the items or a monologuing shop-keeper to push the player deeper into said tone. Overall, though, if you like ballistic violence, you've gotta try Synthetik.

An Alright Robot Game
My biggest gripe with the game at the moment is that it doesn't feel complete and lacks fun, there aren't enough items that synergize well enough with each other, and any guns you get will invariably suffer on the fourth floor if they aren't red or don't have particular arbitrary stat numbers (i.e. armor piercing or certain bullets or weapon type of plasma, laser, etc.), this becomes a problem when the entire game mechanic relies around guns and arbitrary numbers and their corresponding systems aren't explained at all to newcomers, you're simply told to inspect the weapon and that's about it. When you consider that guns are given to you completely randomly, (aside from weapon shops which are also completely random), and the fact that on top of that guns get random stats and random damage types which may only be good at tearing through shields and nothing else, you get a frustrating mechanic where you are hoping by the time you get to the fourth floor where suddenly enemies start doing much more damage then they should be and becoming bullet sponges, you have to hope you get a particular weapon or it's GG by floor four and above, it's basically like being told to get out and that your entire run was a waste of time. You can never really be truly OP in this game unless you have any of the 3 particular red items that are way better then everything else could ever hope to be. Also fuck chrono troopers and gliders that stunlock you even while dodging. I forgot to mention the frequent crashes I had with the GOG copy of the game and the Steam copy never crashing once. It can't be fullscreen and I have to click a few times so it doesn't crash. Needs a bug fix or some sort. It's not a bad game if you're thinking of getting it, just buy on sale for 50% or for 75% off, which it is at the time of this review.

"Gun's not just about shoot'n..."
I've only got a few hours on record, but I've already seen enough to say that this is a really good game. A top-down sprite based shooter with amazing graphics, great sound design with well defined audio cues to communicate stuff to the player, different character classes to pick from, lots of different passive and active items as well as weapons to collect and upgrade, and a dynamic range of different enemies (including bosses), growing tougher as you progress through the levels. Plus, the game promotes good accuracy and restraint, and rewards you for properly timing your reloads. If you fancy stuff like Enter the Gungeon and Risk of Rain, then you'll probably love SYNTHETIK
