Story

The self-proclaimed hero, Neptune, awakes in a familiar world, but has no recollection of anything other than her name. With the help of a mysterious girl named Chrome, as well as three other familiar faces beloved in the Neptunia™ series, Neptune embarks on a journey through the mysterious dimension to try to regain her memory.

Little do they know, the world they inhabit is under attack by an enemy who wants to take civilization back to the time where 2D reigns supreme.

Can Neptune and her friends save the world and 3D games as we know it, or will they be flattened into two dimensions forever?

Surprisingly fun and cute. Worth my time

New and fresh, many people thought(including me) "Ah, this new RPG theme spin-off is going to be boring" I decided to give it a try, and now I can't stop playing, quite fun to play. The world art is beautiful, the BGM is very good to listen to, and it doesn't use the same BGM as other Neptunia series. Also, Neptune's reaction is cute in this game, I haven't played far yet, and I can't wait to meet the other members and see how they act. The only problem is it doesn't support other "system locale"(or some? unsure) When I run the game, it instantly crashes every time, it took me hours to figure out. I changed my PC's Control Panel-Region-system locale to "English(United States)" and "uncheck Beta". After restarting my PC, I can finally play the game. It doesn't work when I was using Japanese locale, not sure if others can make the game work.

somewhat lacking as an RPG

The strengths of this game lie in the character dialog, which can be a bit long-winded at times but also very funny, and then exploring the 2D environments. Some of the areas have a bit of platforming action, or puzzles which involve getting to a hard-to-reach place or collecting items within a specified time limit. NPCs generally don't have much to say, especially if you already completed their quest. Some of them will just say "..." The battle system is a strange one. When Neptune is alone, you'll trade blows with the enemy and maybe use an item on occasion. It's fairly ordinary, if simplistic. But when you get additional party members you'll be able to learn a variety of elemental attacks. Combine that with some key abilities (like HP regeneration) and pretty soon you become overpowered and can button-mash your way through every battle, including bosses. Setting up your formations/actions outside of battle is what is important, unfortunately these get reset to defaults when characters leave and re-enter your party so you'll need to re-configure everything several times throughout the game. On a side note, I had to enter the game settings on every launch and turn gamepad/controller support on, and then back off, for it to really be off (because I wanted to use joy2key instead).
