great game, sad that there's no sequel

This is my absolute favourite game and I've played it since it was available for £5 in 1999! If you like Civilization, you will LOVE Alpha Centauri! Once you master the main game, Alien Crossfire adds a new and exciting dimension to the game and it's kept me hooked for over 25 years!

Tough to go wrong with Sid Meier's stuff.

I've been addicted to this game for decades. It's awesome. definitely worth checking out.

I bought SMAC when it was first released 12 years ago. The game has never left my hard drive over the years despite the hassles of getting it to run on newer operating systems. The most annoying thing about the game though is it's annoying CD check DRM. Admittedly I've relied on no-CD 'patches' to avoid having to carry the game disc with my laptop. But when I saw GOG offering SMAC, as an inexpensive DRM-free download, I decided enough was enough and signed up just to get this. I am not disappointed in the least. SMAC is a terrific classic to this day and GOG is an excellent service. I now see more games in GOG's catalog that I'm interested in. I do echo other's sentiments that GOG need to get Alien Crossfire into the mix as well. The SMAC series will be played regularly until Sid gets his act together and makes SMAC 2 and drops the silly/disappointing Facebook Civ effort.
