One fatal flaw.

The game is almost a 10/10, but the checkpoint system is so bad that it became the first game i've ever refunded. Nexus points, as the game calls them, are NOT checkpoints, but respawn points with unlimited uses, and no consequence for using them apart from your score. And because of that, your first death in a level presents you not with an option, but a deal with the devil. You can use a checkpoint and make future deaths meaningless, which will make the game boring as sin. Since it is not a matter of skill to finish a level anymore, but of time. Or the alternative of restarting the whole level, trying to finish it with no deaths for a score bonus, which will get unnecessarily frustrating, since the game tempts you with respawning like nothing ever happened, and the only way to turn it off is to avoid the checkpoints, which isn't always possible.

Recent update 1.0.0.4 problem

After clearing Scarum you cannot continue to next level. The continue button does not respond. In fact I cannot return to main menu. I have to go to Windows and close. I return to continue it forces me to do the same level over again and then the continue button is not working. Good game but stuvk on one level. I have Windows 10 so its not a OS problem.

But in the end it doesn't even matter...

Good things come first - Prodeus is a fun, dynamic, gorgeous FPS engine with a beautiful set of assets. Sadly, it is somehow less of a single-player FPS game. The SP campaign simply does not climax to the end. The gameplay is split between several dimensions and while the first one seems to be magnificent enough, the further you go - the lesser you are given to blast thru. The war is raging between Prodeus and Chaos, and how much levels are you given in the Chaos dimension? Like, both of them?!? :facepalm: And what will be eagerly waiting for you at the end of the SP campaign? A nice message about the magnitude of your startling success? Come on, even D00M 1 had some outro! At least, they managed to draw a pastorale... There are even some weapons which are not available in this SP campaign. This clearly shows that the bets were put on the MP/community instead of investing in a proper SP game. A pity, really. -1 star for this flawed SP experience. The game is fine otherwise.

Why I like it more than DOOM Eternal

This only my personal opinion so if anybody likes DOOM Eternal that is fine by me. For me there is a major difference between DOOM Eternal and Prodeus when it comes to gameplay. The former forces you to use certain weapon against that particular enemy or otherwise you will have a really bad day. Prodeus on the other hand gives you all types of weapons and says "here, have fun". Do you want to use a minigun here? Sure, why not. Do you want to blast those enemies with rocket launcher? Go for it. Do you want to wreck their faces with shotgun? Watch out for the blood. To sum it up: I can play how I want even though some of my choices may not be the best ones. But hey, that's what it means to face the consequences of my decisions and learn from those mistakes. However, there is also another thing that I like more about Prodeus. While Eternal forces me to use this or that weapon in Prodeus I cycle through weapons by myself... because they are fun to use and I have ammo to do so. Sure, some weapons are better in certain situations but when you have this massive fight and you can just do whatever the hell you want that's something I really like. It reminds me how fun was DOOM 2016 when I could engage those demon bastards however I liked. The game is not perfect, however, I will give it a 5 stars because of the amount of fun I have with it. It's a fast paced shooter with awesome gunplay and I can't wait for the devs to finish it.

Nice old school feel to it.

I backed this game on Kickstarter and now I could finally try it out. The gameplay is fast-paced and the shooting is gritty. You can swap between polygon modeled enemies or classic sprites and I recommend the sprites. Whenever you shoot something there is a satisfying cascade of blood and the death animations are just as gory as a classic Doom-fan would like them. The performance is still not very good considering the visuals but otherwise this game is heading in the right direction.
