Fun detective puzzler
For the longest time, Floor 13 (available at abandonia) has been in my top tier of under-rated games that I always recommend. Now Orwell gets to go right up there as the modern version. The gameplay is pretty simple. You spend time scanning different pieces of digital media for highlighted datachunks that you drag and drop into the profiles of the person of interest you're focused on. It seems easy, but it can get tricky. For one, once you upload a datachunk into a profile, you can't delete that datachunk. So you need to be sure it's the best piece of information you have. Another kink is that you'll often find conflicting data chunks and you need to decide which one is the most trustworthy. That's where context and player critical thinking skills come in handy. Finally, the in-universe rational is that you're an analysis detective and the people doing the actual arresting of suspects will follow the profile you build exactly. So it's important to note how the datachunks will fall into the profiles. One easy example is that a friend jokingly talks about how another friend is "torturing" with muffins. But if you're paying attention, you'll notice that if you drag that highlighted datachunk to a profile, it only mentions "X tortured Y," completely changing the intention. Context is key, because like before, the beat cops will have zero context, only the information you provide. If you're into puzzlers that make you feel like a detective, you can do a lot worse than Orwell.
