Borked before I even got to play
The game starts, but then locks up after a painfully long and annoying scroll of text before the first mission. Checking the forums and other places for a bug fix allowed me to try one option and it didn't fix the problem for me, so this game gets marked as unplayable. Seemed like it had a lot of nice late 90's charm to it, though - what a shame.

Too bad, so sad...
I am giving this game 2 stars because it seems like Shiny did initially start making a sequel (first part of the game is inline with version one), but then handed the game to Bioware for whatever reason (probably money). Now, I cannot be sure, but I think Bioware handed it to their janitor and hence was born the disappointment now known as MDKII (a move that the game never recovered from). There was a version released not too long ago that updates the graphics and makes it work on Win10. I think you had to download Bioware's shop software to get it, but it disappeared before I could buy it and their support staff were unable to assist me. This version being punted by GOG however, is not that updated version. It is the original version, so you will wait fort the text to scroll onto the screen at 1 character every 30 seconds between levels on Win10 plus many other little irritations will make the game unplayable. If the GOG team ever get their hands on the updated version I will probably waste some monies on that too, cause it is just so much fun going through the initial levels as Kurt in God Mode. I would never disrespect the original game like that though, but good luck playing either on Win10.

a sad mistake
I loved the original MDK, and still have vivid memories from playing it to death way back in 1997. It was a smart, funny, beautiful, technically impressive, engaging game. Shiny deserved every kudos for it. I eventually got MDK2, and really really wished I had not. It was not made by Shiny, the original developers, but by Bioware, and is almost certainly their worst title. I played the entire game and tried to like it, but it's so mediocre (sometimes awful), especially compared to the first, that I regret the purchase to this day. If you're looking for something in a similar vein to the original, I can't say there's anything else that does what MDK did so well, but Sacrifice (also by Shiny) and Giants: Citizen Kabuto (by Planet Moon, founded by former ex-Shiny crew) have similar aesthetics and are well worth playing. Maybe MDK2 is somebody's favorite game, but I just want everybody expecting a good sequel to have fair warning.
