mindless first person-shooter
The good thing about this game: It has pretty particle effects. The bad thing: everything else. - It looks more realistic than most games, but everything also looks bland. - The story is abysmal and all characters are clichés. - Voice acting, music and sound effects are mediocre. - You might enjoy the combat system if you like lots of number crunching to determine the best possible combination of dozens of random upgrades to cause maximum damage, even though every upgrade you obtain now will be obsolete an hour later. I certainly don't. - There's barely any enemy variety. You fight the same people/demons/undead over and over in a seemingly endless grind. There are also some technical issues (note that I can run games such as The Witcher 2 or Dragon Age: Inquisition just fine): - The game often crashes after a few hours of play. - The frame rate randomly drops. - There are random freezes during the loading screens. - The game cannot handle nonstandard keyboard layouts. - It also does not gracefully handle being minimized in fullscreen mode (it only reopens after several tries).

Great experience, immense depth system
The game basically is a FPS with spell based, the shooting experience could be easily the best one for its genra. In addition, the artistic aspect is a real deal and many scenes are breathtaking. Furthermore, the depth of the crafting system is just one of the most creative thing I've ever seen, I could spend more than an hour thinking about what to craft and the combination of various kind of spells. But this could lead to the downside of the game, the UI is a real frustration. Another con I could think about is the story is just meh at most of the time. TLDR: recommended

So close
This is a wonderful title with a lot of fantastic ideas. Unfortunately, it also suffered from some bad ideas that make it a frustrating experience for newcomers. I feel that the good ideas in this game strongly outweigh the bad, and I'd very much like to see a sequel produced with the knowledge gained from this experience. Unfortunately the game did poorly in sales so it seems unlikely we'll see that. Nevertheless, I recommend this game. The good: -customizable spells. They're a lot of fun to experiment with. -build variety. There's several valid ways to build your spells and character that make him/her feel unique -voice acting. there's not much of it, and some of the supporting characters are meh, but the main characters are solid The bad: -spell building is limited by the spell parts you find. Spell parts are consumed by the spell you create. The problem with this is two fold. First, since you have limited resources, it discourages experimentation, which is really the best thing going for this game. Second, you wind up with a lot of garbage spell parts in your inventory, which requires a lot of inventory management to convert them to something useful. -level and enemy design. Not surprisingly, the levels are linear. As the studio's first project, they had a budget to work with. The problem is that those levels are long, and you'll see the same scenery throughout. Most enemies are of either the: shoot you from afar type or the run up and smack you type. As you progress, more enemies will break the mold, and boss battles can be fun, but expect a lot of repetition. -difficulty. Easy difficulty is too easy, but normal difficulty is quite hard. This is where the frustration kicks in. The one bit of advice for new players: upgrade your shields every spell level. The improvement may seem marginal, but it's the difference between two hit shield break and three, and that's a big deal.

The best magic system I've seen
When I saw the trailer, I wasn't very impressed, to be honest. The game looked too frenetic to me. If the trailer was the only soruce of information, I would not buy the game. Luckily, it wasn't. Lichdom: Battlemage is a fantasy action game. You are a mage who is not limited with the amount of mana. A powerful mage who can destroy thousand of enemies, yet can't jump nor swim. You do not have a sword either, so casting spells is the only way you can fight enemies. There are 8 sigils in the game, each with three spells- Nova, a spell activated when you defend yourself, Targeted spell, which is a standart one and AOE- Area of Effect spell. Each spell can be atunned to destruction, control and mastery. The effects of these attunements vary from sigil to sigil, but in general it's reccommended to combine them in order to hurt your enemies more. The powers of sigils can be combined, which is the main fun of the game in my opinion. For example, I casted a time bubble on an enemy, which absorbs damage from other spells. Then I casted a spell which sends bugs to the enemy, eating them alive from within. Finally, I used a teleport spell. The enemy was teared apart with it. The bugs then went to other enemies, hurting and teleporting them through the battlefield. You can also craft your own spells from resources you'll find on the way, upgrade the spells and even the resources and craft synergies. Synergies are spells which combines power of two sigils. They can summon powerfull creatures or deal huge damage to enemies. In general, this game is very good. Yes, it can get sometimes a bit repetetive and the levels are basically corridors with few other ways to go. I think the story can't stand on it's own, it serves more like a motivation to go further, killing enemies down the road. But this is a debut of Xavian, and as such is really good. I reccommend this game.
