Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

This game is different from the other game. I like it, as simple as that.

Ich kann mich den anderen positiven Bewertungen nur anschließen. Ich habe lange nicht mehr einen so guten Titel gesehen. Sehr gute Optik, wunderschön und dystopisch. Der Sound ist der Wahnsinn, mit einem guten Kopfhörer reißt der alles raus. Das Gameplay hat hie und da ein paar Schwächen, die man verschmerzen kann. Was mich wirklich mitgenommen hat, war die Umsetzung Senuas Psychosen. Die Dunkelheit versucht sie zu erdrücken, und ebenso habe ich mich gefühlt. Solch eine Beklemmung und stellenweise Klaustrophobie habe ich zuletzt nur bei Silent Hill 2 verspürt. Und immer wieder wunderschöne, "erholsame" Passagen. Hut ab, die Entwickler haben ganze Arbeit geleistet. Einzig die Gegner werden mit der Zeit etwas eintönig, die Kämpfe sind dennoch spannend. Volle Punktzahl, zehn von fünf Sternen, an diesem Titel können sich viele AAA-Titel einen großen Batzen abschneiden.

The game seems great and I was really hoping I could play it. However, after trying to get it to work for a few hours, I eventually abandoned all hope. There are a lot of people telling you to disable / uninstall different things, but neither of their suggestions worked for me. It seems to be a wide-spread issue with Unreal Engine + modern drivers and the fix should probably come from the developers. In any case, I am quite sad that I was unable to play this "indie AAA" game. I'll try to ask for a refund. I am leaving this as a warning for people thinking of buying it in 2019.

Nice graphics and atmosphere. Actual gameplay is mediocre. Puzzles are rather annoying.

The atmosphere in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is absolutely incredible. There hasn't been a low note so far, several hours in. Each new area feels more impressive than the last, and the sense of desperation is palpable. While the focus of this game is not the combat, the fighting elements are done very well. Dodging is fast and responsive, yet limited so that it is not overpowered. Weapon impacts are satisfying, and the game relies on visual cues other than health bars to indicate an enemy's status, There nothing in the way of a HUD, with absolute zero screen clutter. You have to pay attention. The introduction to the puzzles could have been done somewhat better. This was the only problem I had, as the goal is not immediately clear. AFter that first hurdle, however, everything else was intuitive. It is nice to find a game that doens't hold your hand. As for difficulty, on Auto, it seemed quite challenging, although I'm not sure exactly how that difficulty works. The game is technically permadeath, but after dying three or four times, I still don't seem to be in danger of losing my save. It seems like it's something you intentionally have to trigger, as the mechanic is tied into the story itself, similar to Dark Souls, although I haven't died nearly as much here. Overall, I would gladly have paid twice as much, and I haven't even finished it yet.
