Cthulhu meets comedy

An enjoyable story with protagonists, you never met before in that combination. Private Eye Don R. Ketype, the part-time librarian/student Buzz Kerwan, Kitteh, his talking cat and the legendary Necronomicon - on a phantastic journey into the (at first) unknown - this is, what awaits you, player With beautiful graphics, nicely drawn characters and witty dialogues you are instantly drawn into the game. It is clearly inspired by LA games, many references to e.g. Day of the Tentacle or Monkey Island etc. Puzzles are more on the easy side, so no testing of the frustration level. Pros of this little gem are the well designed characters, the witty dialogues and the unconventional story with nice highlights in between (Kitteh as a rising star in the musical scene or a rap battle....) As con may count the little challenge - but this is a question of taste. I highly recommend Gibbous !

Everything good until the ending

I only got around to play this game now and for the most part it was great, the puzzles were good and balanced (only one or two puzzles were a bit odd but nothing really frustrating) voice acting was pretty competent and the soundtrack does a pretty good job giving character to each location and moment. The artwork is GREAT, the animations are fantastic and the backgrounds beautiful and detailed(the festival in fishmouth was a favourite for me) So why only three stars? It's the ending for me that does it, I already got some hints before getting to the actual end but it was a pretty awful ending\last ten minutes, i know that stories based on the cthulhu mythos don't have the usual endings (i loved every minute of dark corners of the earth and call of cthulhu, ending included in those cases) but i feel the tone for most of the game didn't need an ending of that kind. Anyway, as a first game for the studio it was a great work you did guys, just the ending that soured my experience is all.

Good Visuals, Music and Voices, but...

In terms of gameplay mechanic, the puzzles seem uninspired (mostly chains of "give item A to person B to get item C for person D"). There is a lot of expositional fluff text (well written and voiced), which in itself is nice, and you have to click on an element multiple times to get all of it, what makes it easier to digest, *but* there are moments where the "puzzle" (in the broadest meaning) is that you just need to get *all* of the description of something, which makes the whole multiple-ckick thing feel like unnecessary busiwork you cannot avoid. The atmosphere and humor of the game was what I was the most curious about - a mix of Monkey Island and Cthulhu mythos seemed intrigueing. Unfortunately, it just does not click for me - or at least not, like it is done here. It feels like a big mash-up of too many unconnected ingredients. In lieu of an original humor, there are just too many plain references to other games and arts and things that feel wildly out of place and which are just flat and on-the-nose. I gave up when encountering an obvious bug that left the screen stuck in a file cabinet browsing view (during another less than enticing puzzle) and I could not continue. The graphics and music is definitely where you feel this game could have been more. Story, atmosphere, puzzles & mechanics are rather "meh". The developers and artists who made that game did a good job on the strong points though, so I hope they will continue and follow up with something more individual and inspired.

Absolutely lovely!

I enjoyed this game a lot! Nice graphics, nice characters, nice story, and a really nice kind of humour. A detective called "Don R. Ketype" - yes, I like that! I am sure there are a lot more funny names in the game, but I did not get them, because English is not my native language. Although I consider myself having a good knowledge and understanding of English language, I really wished there was a German voice track, because many of the characters you meet are speaking terrible accents. Sometimes I had to guess what they where saying, and without the German text I wouldn't even have had a tiny chance of understanding. Apart from that language problem: a great game! Hmmm... the ending... *sigh*... well, it is some sort of happy ending, anyway, and everyone will live happily ever after, although not quite the way you would expect, I guess. Nevertheless, it made my eyes wet. So be prepared and have your tissues ready! Only one question remains: will Mr. "R. Ketype" ever be able to keep his shoes for more than one scene? :)
