It made me to like mice! (well, almost)

An “avoid your enemies” game. Stay low, hide and avoid. You can incapacitate (preferably unaware) enemies temporarily, by throwing bottles at their heads, but it's difficult. If spotted, it’s easier to outrun them and hide. They don’t search in hiding spots to root you out. You can save the game only when you are in a hiding spot. These are everywhere, you just have to reach one. No voice-acted (I expected it would be), so you have to read texts while conversing with others. The texts are short and funny, so reading them doesn’t become tiresome. There is a main questline and side quests, but you can’t affect anything in level-ups. The only important thing is to feed, as the length of your health bar is also your stamina, and it is badly needed when spotted by an enemy and you need to hastily get away from him. Another major aspect of gameplay consists of costumes. According to the lore of the game, and since all mice look identical, their clothing in different occasions is the means by which they can be told apart. As you find your way in the game’s areas and search out, you can find separate pieces of clothing, and if you collect all pieces (usually five) that consist a costume, you can wear it and trick others. For example, you can pass as a guard among other guards, and you can solve quests, not solvable otherwise. The inventory is well organized but, sadly, there is no minimap. And you have to find a map of each area you’re in. Thankfully, with some exploration, each area is easy to be familiarized with, so I (at least) didn’t need to open up the map. The game itself makes you to want to discover every nook and cranny! Also, you can discover shortcuts in each area’s locations, which are very useful, as they connect the area’s locations (instead of having to go by the long route). 10 skills in the game. You can learn them by NPCs, after doing some quests for them. Utterly amazing! 22 hours for me, passed very pleasantly! The game definitely needs a sequel.

Missed potential, bad performance.

I love the stealth genre and grew up with Metal Gear and the Thief series and later Splinter cell, but this game is just incredible boring and clumsy. The stealth mechanics are more than basic, the enemy A.I is not very intelligent and the gameplay is boring and shallow. The performance is still very bad and you will experience a lot of fps drops and stuttering. Side quests are fetch quests and not very engaging. You often need to find hard to see objects so you will wander around for hours just to be able to complete the missions. I wish I could refund or remove the game from my library.

If only...

...this game had voice acting. If by some miracle this game had voice acting with talents who could convey the humour, it would be a total masterpiece. As it stands, it's just 90% of a masterpiece. Great game.

Charm out the wazoo

Absolutely beautiful, entertaining stealth gem. A bit on the difficult side, at least for me, and eventually I felt like I'd reached my level of incompetence and quit. But it wasn't a rage quit. I was truly sad, because I really, really, really liked it. I'm sure I'll go back and give it another go one of these days. P.S. No bugs or crashes for me. Would recommend at any reasonable price.

Now is the time!!

Hey - you! Still haven't played "Ghost of a Tale"? Because -- even though it's looking gorgeous -- you heard the game's horribly broken? Let me tell you: Now is the time. You do not want to miss this gem! I had GoaT in my backlog for the longest time - and my eyes on it for even longer. But I held back all these years because apparently it was riddled with bugs. Well, after years of updates, it may not be completely bug-free, but what game today is? I can happily report that - after resolving some initial issues when starting the game - I encountered very few bugs, most of them harmless. Even the rare "game-breaking" error was fixed by simply restarting. If there is one word I would use to describe this game it has to be "luscious". The graphics and animations are - even by today's standards - unparalleled. This game is stunningly beautiful and you can see the passion for detail all around. But it's not just a looker. Gameplay-wise, GoaT is a very competent, more-ish action-adventure. As Tilo, the mouse minstrel, you have to escape a prison fortress, which involves a lot of sneaking and quest-solving. It's fun to explore the many corners and secret passages of the aforementioned fortress and its surroundings. The world is by no means huge - especially compared to the likes of Skyrim or Witcher 3 - but not every game has to be. What IS there, is more than enough - quality over quantity, and all that. Also, the game has no quest markers - you actually have to find your way around the old-fashioned way. And I absolutely LOVED that! It does a lot in terms of immersion. If I have to criticize anything it would be the fact that the story feels like only the first chapter of a much larger epic. And that some gameplay features and story elements feel a little bit... well, undercooked. Not bad, just underutilised or inconsequential. But these are just minor complaints to what is otherwise a great game you don't want to miss out on!
