  • Verschiedene Spielmechaniken (Shoot'em up, Beat'em all, Jump 'n' Run, Taktik, Versus Fighting und viele mehr!)
  • Unzählige Geek-Referenzen
  • Faszinierendes Setting, das auf Zeitreisen basiert

A love letter to classic console games

The first Evoland was pretty much a proof of concept, interesting and fun but ultimately really short and lacking in real substance. Evoland 2, OTOH, does a wonderful job of turning an interesting idea into a full, satisfying game. The game looks and feels like the Legend of Zelda crossed with the plot and travel travel mechanic of Chrono Trigger. There are several time periods you can visit to explore the game world, and each one is rendered as a different console game era(8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit) where the graphics get better or worse as you travel back and forth through time. The game is fairly linear for the first half but opens up around the 8/9 hour mark where you can freely travel the world and through time as you wish. Where the game owes a lot to the previous Evoland is that the game-play type changes. A battle against lots of pirates turns into an isometric double dragon beat-em up mode, an invitation for single combat starts a Street-Fighter fighting game and so on. What's more surprising then the novelty of this is that it actually works a vast majority of the time and that none of the game-play changes feel forced(well, the guitar hero and bejeweled modes were stretching it a little) .The developers clearly tried to capture the feel and gameplay of the different genres and while not perfect, the result is fairly engaging. The worst issue I had is that some of the modes, particularly the Street Fighter match felt really difficult and my thumbs were in pain long before I won. So because of these different modes, the difficulty curve might feel schizophrenic, especially depending on your comfort level and knowledge of the game type you are playing. The designers at least had the foresight to allow you to adjust the difficulty level on the fly(you will use it, trust me) and provided plenty of checkpoints, as well as some other ways to make the game easier. Also, you will need a controller for certain parts of this game if you wish to stay sane.

An epic journey through time!

Welcome to Evoland 2. If you're familiar with the first game, this second installment continues on the combined package of all sorts of game genres, but much longer (20-30 hours). It has platforming sections, classic minigames like Snake, Pong, Pacman as well as flying shoot 'm up, beat 'm up. fighting and the list goes on. However most of the time you'll be playing a platformer/adventure hybrid. Story: 5/5 The story starts off pretty cliche. You are playing Kuro who lost his memory. He's the silent protagonist which you'll play with through the game. Soon you will accidentially end up in the wrong time and you'll be trying to get back to the present. The party members may seem a bit on the surface but they are fleshed out just fine. The game actually found room for character development through the course of the game. When I finished the game I was confused regarding the story. Now that everything sank down a bit, it's simply brilliant. Graphics: 4/5 The graphics change depending on the time period you're in. From 8bit monochrome at some point up to 3D graphics. You have 16 bit, 32 bit and the 3D world. Each do just fine and look the part. The 3D era isn't very beautiful but do just fine. The world looks colourful and there has been put the effort in 3 eras. Sound: 4/5 The soundtrack is great and it has quite some catchy tunes and tributes to the first game You will also hear familiar sound effects from Zelda Gameplay: 5/5 There is lots to do in this game. It even has it's own card game system build in like Final Fantasy which is a lot of fun! But overall it plays great and smooth. I will mention you'll find the occassional bug however it has never broken my game. There are plenty of save points which means you'll never be too frustrated when you die. The changing gameplay make the game refreshing and interesting. Final verdict: 5/5 a great sequel and stand alone game that perfects the game genre mashup the first Evoland title had set in motion

Marty, we have to go back...

This game is, quite possibly, one of the most lovingly crafted titles in the last decade, at least. The core gameplay is in the vein of games like Bastion, Lufia and the old school Zelda titles in that its a simple matter of swinging your sword and wailing on enemies. Like the graphics, the gameplay evolves constantly and will have you surprised, delighted and laughing with each new mechanic. Some highlights include a dead accurate simulation of Chrono Trigger's classic combat, a Street Fighter-style boss encounter (complete with hadouken super move) and a surprisingly deep nod to Puzzle Quest's unique combination of Bejeweled gem-matching and RPG abilities. The graphics, as I mentioned, evolve as you playing, ranging from the signature green and black of the original GameBoy to beautifully rendered 32-bit visuals, all matched with an art style reminiscent of Chrono Trigger and, most especially, Golden Sun. The addictively evolving gameplay and brilliant visuals are anchored by a soundtrack that will make you want to buy it from the first few notes and tons of hilarious and clever references in both the dialogue and the game world itself (including nods to everything from Kingdom Hearts to Fire Emblem). As a conclusion, here are a few things to keep in mind about the game: its very linear at first, but be patient: when the game opens up it REALLY opens up; a controller is a must; there are very few guides for this game online, so be prepared for tough, well-designed puzzles, well hidden collectibles and unpredictable enemies and dungeons. Do not hesitate to get this game. It's a wonderful experience, particularly for long time gamers, and constantly delights in every aspect.

A masterpiece which takes you back.

My playtime: 26h 40m (i 100% it). If you grow in 90s, you better buy this game for nostalgia. If you didn't grow up in 90s, you better buy this game for the awesomeness. Yes, this is how great this game is. A truly masterpiece from what i have played in years. Evoland 2 places itself in a unique setting, in a time between past and future, the present, with a device which allows you to travel between time. The unique thing in this game is, there are many different genres in this game, such as: action (Zelda), turn based (FF), platformer (Megaman), fighting (Tekken), shooter/bullet hell, to even as simple as pong! Unlike other time travelling games, there are a lot of difference in this game, mainly in graphics. The graphics used in the past is using the 8-bit 2D graphics, the present is using 16-bit 2D graphics, and the future? It's in 3D, although the graphic quality isn't as good as other AAA titles. Although i said that it's using 8-bit graphics, it's not as bad as the old games. It's actually better than those. It's surprising on how the artist put in an effort to make every map looks differently, especially on some asset which changed or moved between the times. If you have played Evoland (the first serie), you should know about the lack of story in that game. You don't have to worry about it on this game because the story is what makes it part of the game. There are even some mystery surrounding the story that needs some thinking which raises some speculations around about what happened. There are some reused music from Evoland, but since the music is very good, i don't mind on listening it again. The other music is very pleasant to hear, which is bringing up the atmosphere in the map you are in, and you will have a chance to listen to some retro music style! Pros: - Various genre - 3 different maps (past, present, future) +1 other - Card mini game is back! - Upgradeable equipment Cons: - Long delay between timeline travel - Some genre isn't replayable

Best console style rpg since forever!

Not enough people are talking about this game. Evoland one came out and was in the limelight for a while for being a gimmick. Evoland 2 is no gimmick. Whereas the first game told a generic story with extremely blunt references to Zelda and Final Fantasy, the second is much more subtle, but can also stand on its own without any references. Let's get down to brass tacks. Evoland 2 is an action rpg played from an overhead perspective. Most of the time you are wandering through dungeons; solving puzzles and killing enemies for exp and money. The puzzles are not too hard, although if you want to find all of the collectibles such as a material for making weapons or cards (I'll get to that) then you have to search heartily. You also wander into towns where you can search for secrets, raid peoples treasuries, buy items and equipment and play a card game called Game of Cards. This game is like a pseudo ccg; almost a cross between Hearthstone and Monster Monpiece. Cards are won through beating certain opponents, and the card game plays out pretty well, although sometimes it feels like you either steamroll them or vice versa. This is not the only non action rpg gameplay feature though. The game will be broken up occasionally by segments seemingly ripped from other games. There is a shmup section, a Megaman-esque level, Bomberman, Fire Emblem, Chrono Trigger style combat and more. These sections fit right into the theme of the events happening in the story and never feel out of place. The story is one of time travel, where each era is attributed to a different graphical style (8 and 16 bit, as well as ps2 era 3d). There are three companions who accompany the hero on his journey to do world saving things. They are all written well, if a little tropey, but it works. In conclusion, since I'm running out of space, my only regret is that it feels too short. A certain reveal at the end of the game feels like a halfway point, beat it in 13 hours, and I want more.
