Agreed: Empire Earth III is terrible

The reviews of Empire Earth are overwhelmingly negative - and I must agree, unfortunaetly. (I dare say it is a waster of money, but on sale for less than a coffee? I'll accept the cost and now know firsthand why everybody calls it bad...) Back on topic: Empire Earth I and II both try to be a real time strategy game which is a mix of fantasy, oversimplification and realism. - Both games I enjoyed "back in the old days". Empire Earth III, ehm, what does it do? It reminds me of the early settlers games such as Settlers 3 or 4 with a more comic-like graphic, yet it is played out over regions that are supposed to be spread across the world.... I only spent 30 minutes on it at the time of writing playing in one region: I miss the extensive buildings, the technology tree, the more extensive economy. I do not like the graphics style (for an Empire Earth game)... - And why do we only get three roughly shaped civilisations? I'd advise against puchasing this. If you must, then only during a sale and research it in more depth to see what you are getting yourself into. - And I need to decide whether I want to keep this on my harddrive or not... Whether this is a good or bad game is an independent question. Empire Earth III is definitely NOT an Empire Earth game in the style of I and II.

A fair shake after a few hours.

Good -Pathfinding is well fixed compared to previous games, units are very readable due to their cartoon'y art style. -There's three unique factions who all build completely differently, leading to variety in gameplay and more options of strategy. Bad -Campaigns were stripped out, favoring a "domination" mode akin to Dawn of War Dark Crusade and Battle for Middle-earth 2 Witch King. While not bad on its own, the game had such a massive departure from previous installments, and such a short tutorial, that there's no good way to 'learn as you play' like most RTS games specialize in for good reason. -UI was reduced for simpler gameplay and readability, sacrificing many RTS aspects in the process, like formations and attack-moves. Some can be circumvented (ordering a patrol command into an enemy base effectively attack-moves, like we're playing the original Command & Conquer again.) but not everything can be compensated for. -There's three unique factions who all build completely differently, coupled with Epochs being reduced from 14 to 5 this means there's effectively the same amount of units as before, they're just locked to different groups. Ugly -Unit callouts are horribly obnoxious; all puns, subversions, or jokes. Nothing serious. If it weren't for the over-the-top blood of combat I'd assume this was rated E for Everyone targeting 8-12 year olds. -Inconsistent framerate by instance. That is to say, some units are animated at 30, others at 60. The UI is at 60, but the weather is at 20. Screenshots look great, but in motion it's a bit messy. However, it is still readable from a birds eye view which is important. -There's three unique factions who all build completely differently, in a series based off Age of Empires, not WarCraft, making it quite jarring for returning fans.

WORST RTS EVER !!!

The game is not comparable to its predecessors. The epochs have been reduced from 15 to 5. The civilizations have been reduced to three, but they differ in terms of gameplay. The world conquest mode is very boring. There are occasional events, but they are often buggy or completely ruin the game. Expect crashes every 30 minutes, which is extremely frustrating. The AI is incompetent in the world conquest mode and fails to advance through the epochs. In my three campaign runs, I always ended up fighting Stone Age units with futuristic units, which feels extremely unchallenging. In the RTS mode, the AI struggles with the Middle East and doesn't know how to properly place its buildings. I have often experienced situations where it simply sends its city buildings into my base or doesn't use them at all. Conclusion: Stay away from this game, even though it says Empire Earth in the title, because it is an absolute punch in the face for every Empire Earth fan.

Someone likes it

I can agree that this game may not be for eveyone, but I actually enjoied this game very much. True, it took me a loooong time to get a hang of, but eventually, I ended upp playing it with a friend over net for about a week. A long game with lots of micromanaging and story. Endless research and building. Very fun for the entusiast.

Terrible

I really enjoyed the first EE, but this game is garbage. Very annoying voices for the characters, glitchy graphics, and crashing every other time I try to play it are just a few of the numerous problems. Do NOT buy this... I am really missing my 10 dollars now.
