In Duskers you pilot drones into derelict spaceships to find the means to survive and piece together how the universe became a giant graveyard.
Explore
You are a drone operator, surrounded by old gritty tech that acts as your only eyes and ears to the outside world. What you hear comes through a remote microphone. What you see is how each drone sees the world. Motion sensors tell you something's out there, but not what. And when you issue commands, you do it through a command line interface.
Adapt
You have to earn everything in Duskers, scavenging drone upgrades, drones, and even ship upgrades. But dangerous creatures lurk in these derelict ships, and weapons are rare, so you may need to think of a clever way to explore a military outpost using only a motion sensor and a lure.
But even if you find a way, the sensor that you rely on may break down, or you may run out of lures, even your drone's camera feed can start to fail. A favorite strategy can't be exploited for long, so you'll have to continually adapt.
Survive
Duskers is set in a procedurally generated Universe, and when you die you lose everything. You not only need to worry about what hazards lay waiting for you in the derelicts, but also running out of fuel, or parts to modify your drones and ship.
You are alone, isolated in the dark reaches of space. Only by sifting through what ship logs remain un-corrupted can you piece together what happened.

Just to tell that the game here is as updated as in Steam. The comment from 2018 that says otherwise is not valid anymore, and the fixes of the old "unnoficial" patch, as well as more recent fixes, are incorporated in GOG.
So enjoy the current sale and buy half the price of Steam! :)
This is an excellent game concept but the execution does need a bit of attention. Hopefully the developer will patch at least some of the issues.
The pros:
- The console, I love games where I don't need to use a mouse and the console even has alias which is a really nice touch.
- I love that the game makes you think and if you make poor choices it is unforgiving.
- I like the atmosphere and aesthetics of the game.
- It is good that it is stable and has not crashed once for me.
- Initially It has good re-playability value to some degree, at least initially.
The cons:
- You cannot save the game mid mission and exit.
- The buggy unfinished parts: For example when you try collect the 8th drone the game will not tell you it does not have space for it on your ship it just gets lost without any choice as to which drones you would prefer to keep. Same issue with ship slots that are red, even after repairing if you try install something it just gets lost. When you commandeer a ship you cannot undo nor is there some kind of warning. I am sure there is a whole lot more bug issues I didn't find yet. (These things should really have been ironed out in beta testing before selling it as a final product.)
- The cannot save bug, I wasted hours of game play due to a bug where it would not actually save the game because the installer marked the game files as read only. Once I unchecked the read only permissions the saving started working. I played it on Windows 7 Pro.
- There is no obvious way to see the attributes about your drones like speed, camera type etc. Having that would make it a bit more rpgish and give it a bit more depth. On that note It is also unclear as to if the different types of drones have advantages over others. For example does wheels work better in some situations than a hovering drone? Are the different types of cameras better at seeing specific threats? Or is it just all eye candy and not actual depth?
- It lacks the depth to keep you engaged for binge hours at a time. (All you do is collect scrap, upgrades and drones)
- The game offers no logical explanation as to why you cannot revisit a ship again.
To sum it up for me personally I think $18 is a bit overpriced considering the issues above. I really love the game concept. Some parts of the game have been given a lot of attention and look great, other parts not so much and leaves a feel of a game that is unfinished.
It starts out interesting and atmospheric, but it becomes repetitive very soon.
The game is not as complex as it initially seems. There are neither new techs nor a real story to discover.
There are only 4 enemy types. Ship classes don't make a difference,
since the random generated layout are all samey.
It's mostly using the same few techs and commands over and over again.
The minimalistic graphics are okay, but the game would benefit from some more soundeffects,
since the game has no music to enhance the immersion.
I pondered getting this game for a while, it seemed interesting but I wasn't sure. I finally broke down and got and played it for several hours straight and those hours just blinked by.
My only grips is I'd like a little better tutorial on what some of the objects are. Yes......I figured it out eventually and without looking it up....but I'm used to being spoon fed ! hahaha
Anyway, if you're looking for a turnbased space themed game that won't be finished quickly and challenges you to PAY ATTENTION, this is a good choice. I will be playing this nightly.
So I thought I've been fed up with rogue-like games but this game prooves me wrong.
What you get is a space exploration game about sending drones through other ships, collecting scraps, log files, new drones, fuel and everything you need to survive the dark and unforgiving space.
All of this is controlled through a terminal window (and the drones can be "driven" directly through your trusty arrow keys).
The concept of controlling your drones through command line is done really well and every Sysadmin or IT-Specialist will feel right at home.
From a gameplay perspective the game is more or less compareable to a puzzle game, you go through different areas opening gates and collecting whatever you may find, be it parts to upgrade your drones and ships, lost drones that are still functional, destroyed drones looting their innards to get new abilities for your existing drones.
Throughout your exploration you'll have to face different sorts of enemies and here comes the puzzle part: you have no real defence, so in order to get around these hazards you have to use your scanning abilities in combination with opening and locking gates to lure the enemy where you want them so that you can savely explore a new room.
If you die it's over, period.
This game is definitely addictive, you never know what really waits for you around the corner, you have tons of upgrades for your drones and your ship so you'll get a decend ammount of variety.
If there is one game that uses procedural generated environments right then it is THIS game.
Last but not least lets talk a bit about the command line interface. It is easy to use and you get a fairly decend set of commands that you can use to navigate your drones, open gates, change the air lock extraction point of your ship, power generators and interact with interfaces. It provides shortcuts for the commands and allows you to interactively work with a lot of things, just like you'd do in your daily job :^)
Definitely a recommendation!
