Dungeon Keeper™ 2

The game description posted here does not do this game justice. This is hands down one of the best games ever made. I have lost months of my life enjoying it. Imagine you're a goodly hero, set loose upon lands to save a princess - right after you invade some dungeons and beat some dragons. It's the plot of many games. But wait - WHY do all these stupid dungeons exist, filled with monsters and treasure for no explicable reason? That answer is the Dungeon Keeper, and he exists because you do. Foolish goodly heroes need a place to charge brainlessly into battle, and you are that evil genius who builds these dungeons, luring them in, and righteously crushing them. Then amass treasure and monsters and dig more because, you know, this dungeon's not gonna build itself. Creatures get grumpy because they've not been paid. They glowstick dance because they won the jackpot. They mercilessly strike down sparkling heroes. The gritty voiceover guides you through the game, encourages you to be evil, and taunts you when you bore him. Play to 4am for a secret gaming tip.

The game freezes. It'll go for some time, then for no apparent reason, the video will freeze (though the game will still be playing). This seems to be a known issue, and GoG has apparently refused to fix it. So, save every time you do something you don't want to do again. I've been saving every 5 minutes or so. On rare occasions, it will unfreeze, but this has happened about twice out of dozens of lockups. So, great game, classic, otherwise runs well, but be prepared for the issue. Also, I had to download the patched map files, since the ones provided will not allow for spawned goblins, dark knights, and dark angels in several maps. You can search around to find them.

Still a great game to play, the only issue I had was getting it to run through GOG by changing combatibility to Windows 98/me and going to task manager / details / Dungeon Keeper 2 app / changing CPU cores being utilized so it would stop crashing whenever I played it Warning: When playing this game you will likely have to mess with task manager under details to make the game in particular use different cpu cores, and or go to registry edit and mess with the resolution because it peaks at 1024x860? It is said that manually changing the resolution causes most of the crashing problems

I owned both DK1 (Deeper Dungeons addon) and DK2. When they got 3DFX patched the world could have ended and I wouldn’t have noticed! What makes DK# better than any other clone, is that *you* are the Keeper. No having to babysit a hero you must keep alive. Nope. You build all the rooms as you see fit. Train the creatures and keep them happy with chicken legs ;) Everything is at the end of your virtual hand. Slap a slow lazy creature, pickup a minion to harden a wall or dig for good/jewels. Or pickup up a plethora of trained levelled creatures and drop them at the foot of the enemy that just broken through your dungeon and watch the ensuing carnage -with a possession spell- through the eyes of *any* of the creatures you want. All in the comfort of your damp dungeon! The speech of the creatures from mumbles to moan to excitement is hilarious as is the narrator, who come out with one-liners ‘your dungeon is damp, install central heating’ Paydays must be met, otherwise creatures will leave unhappy through the portal they came through. Find treasure boxes with spells, research new ones, lay traps, alarms anywhere. Ranks of Cannons to blast the enemy. Your choice. Once the lord of the realm is defeated in strides Horny to claim a part of the Jewel representing Horney’s face at the foot of the dead lord. Complete them all to have Horny on tap to help defeat hordes and ever more powerful lords. An absolute PC legend, no wonder it’s in GoGs preservation program. No PC should be without it installed and DK1 “ mwahahaha!”

25 years old and still as enjoyable as ever. The graphics are surprisingly decent especially played at 1600x1200. Sound is great. Keyboard mapping is a bit odd but you can change all the keys. Menu text disapears above 1024x768 but once you've memorised the memus it's okay. Doesn't crash too often but it's worth dropping a quick save every couple of minuites. It's a real blast to play it again but I'm not sure if I don't actually prefer Dungrons 3.
