The peace of your enchanted world, Driftmoon, is at an end. An ancient evil is awakening, casting its dark shadows even on your serene home village.
Hope lies in an unlikely alliance: A young man joins forces with a little firefly dreaming of stardom, a panther queen with the ego of a moon whale, and a fellow who's lost everything but his bones, and still hasn't given up. Knowing nothing of the amazing adventures and the fearsome foes that await them, the party embarks on a journey like no other.
Driftmoon is an adventure-roleplaying game, full of exploration, smiles and surprises, captivating stories and quests, charming characters, and countless delightful details.

It's special when you can experience the love that a design staff has poured into a game. Driftmoon, very much feels like a love letter to old school adventure. Cute humor, an interesting plot, and engaging gameplay make for a fun experience.
Length is appropriate (not everything needs to be a 100 hour padded epic). Controls, are clunky at times, and the graphics are serviceable, but not the best in the wolrd.
It reminds me of fantasy tales like the "Never ending story" and Chronicles of Narnia. I highly recommend adding this to your collection.
I was reading some reviews on how this game was compared to Ultima VII and I looked at the screen shots and just said "this game looks stupid" and passed it up, then it went on sale for a buck or two(flash sales November) and I snatched it up, whats a buck anyway! I play it and realize that it takes place in a different type of place but it FELLS Ultima VII!! The dialogue, the characters being some of class and ones you like and the humor is pretty good, not unlike the in jokes of classic TV being put into weird characters as the Laurel and Hardy miners in Ultima VII or the "Hoe of Distruction" references from Ultima VII's Farmer Mack, different hoe, different farmers same thing, give it to the boy, clad him with a straw hat, it's great! The hoe is quite good for a starting weapon as well. The atmosphere is perfect, very subtle not just the generic insects, but different species in the ambiance very nice, the music is excellent, again much as it was in "Serpent Isle", as in some of the magic houses music is similar to the Necromancer's house music in U7SI. Portraits, absent in modern games are beautiful! Rendered here and by painters obliviously! Again just like ultima VII! I am a harsh and picky critic about games, I am 44 years old so I don't just let crappy games fly, this is not a crappy game, it is not stupid, the dialogue is great, the characters likable, I don't say these things lightly. This is much as Ultima VII. Different setting same atmosphere, and different type of character. You are not a stalwart "avatar" but a kid and everyone except you and some other kid(who as some great dialogue!-Utlmia VII reference here too and on purpose) is turned to stone KQ8 reference. The graphics and the combat the same are much more as Torchlight or "Fate", but the game still has the Ulitma VII feel to it. If you are looking for a game that captures the atmosphere and makes you remember how it FELT to play Ultima VII the first time this is it! Worth Full price!
Just enough of a little bit of everything to keep things light and fun, yet not boring.
Story is quite interesting and sometimes funny.
It's not AAA title, but I can tell that much love went into the game.
Take it as a casual RPG story and enjoy the ride
I've only been playing the game for an hour, and the similarities to Ultima 7 are too much to be coincidence. Your first companion is a lot like Spark, and there's even a magical Hoe of Doom(!).
That out of the way, this game is too fun to be missed. The humor is wonderful, the controls are easy, and the gameplay is full of old school RPG greatness.
In Driftmoon, you wander the world, helping people along the way, as you follow the trail of your missing father. Most progression is through talking people through their problems, solving puzzles, and finding things. There are lots of fights, but no grinding, and all attackers have a clear agenda. The worldbuilding is...odd, giving the game a quirky humor, but it is charming rather than sarcastic.
Cons:
You can move the camera, but only slightly. This drove me a bit nuts.
This is a linear game with no randomness, if that is not your thing.
Fighting. The special move animations are just okay. There is no way to coordinate with your team, and your companions frequently don't get the message that combat has started.
Pros:
Modding. Mods can be installed simply by clicking on them in the main menu. I tried the Sister mod, which allows you to play as a female (more or less--a few text references were unchanged), and it was as simple as starting the game.
Characters. Even the briefest NPC encounters were filled with personality.
Items. There is a lot of well-written text in this game. Each item has a backstory. Lots of books are around. (But not one word on why you live on a moon.)
Mood: A silly background allows serious use of black-and-white morality, which surprisingly gives the story a lot of weight. Your character is a hero instead of some thieving jerk people inexplicably trust.
