Driftmoon Enchanted Edition

When offering a critique it is important to understand the nature of what is being reviewed. What this game is not: An eighty hour rpg epic What this game is: An independent production Driftmoon is finely crafted at every turn. Given limited resouces, the development team has made an excellent product. Not bound to convention or cliche, this game is a product of free-thinking and a wry sense of humor. Deftly done with a light touch, this game could be enjoyed by a younger audience, possibly as young as seven or eight. Note there is a strong moral aspect to the game which I found to be refreshing and brave. My complements to the makers of Driftmoon. The game is a noteable achivement. I recommend you sit back with a cup of tea and enjoy some light, fun, and refreshing artistry.

I had a great time playing this game. It had a creative world, an interesting story, and plenty of sub-quests to keep one busy for hours. My only real qualm is that most of the puzzles were a piece of cake for an avid adventure gamer. Most of the time, it was a simple case of collecting the right things and putting them in the right place. But if you want to lose a day or two in another world, this is the game for you.

I was worried when I started the game that it was for the kiddies, when I found myself talking to a pirate crab. I left it for a while to play another RPG game series that was more challenging. Problem was, it wasn't fun. Driftmoon is fun. It doesn't beat you up. It just invites you along with nice music and art, and an engaging story. It's got all the RPG conveniences we're used to - mini map with 2 levels, instant travel thru the map, a quest log, adequate backpack room, cute characters, cute dialogs, cute items (I was using a magic frying pan for a while). Game length was just right - not so long that you're making a career of it. I'm recommending it to my kids.

Just beat this game (which kept me up way past my bedtime)! Yes, the graphics are dated but who cares -- every moment of this journey was fun and magical. I definitely laughed out loud quite a few times. This is not a "click past whatever the quest giver is saying because who cares" type of game. You actually give a hoot about what happens to the characters, even the minor ones (at least, I did). Many current games take themselves way too seriously, concentrating more on game mechanics than actual entertainment (which Driftmoon has in spades). So yeah for the price of a movie ticket, you get around 10 hours of solid fun. Totally worth it. I hope we see more from these developers.

I recently purchased this on GOG, and within moments I was hooked. Although the gameplay might be tame for some, it is really the adventure and exploration that shine out here. There are some great LOL moments in the game, when you discover some of the more obvious references to past CRPG classics, such as Ultima VII. Add in fan service from a wealth of classic fantasy sources, such as fighting the Black Knight from Monty Python's Holy Grail ("'Tis only a flesh wound!") and you have something that will keep you entertained for hours!
