Unplayable without fan-made Wiki, etc.

By making the combat quite difficult, the game puts a huge emphasis on carefully building your characters and party (choice of classes, skills, gear etc). In general, this is a good thing because it means those systems actually are relevant. The problem, however, is that the game does not provide the information you'd need to make informed decisions. For example, there is no way to see and compare what skills are available without walking all across the map and checking the skill books NPCs have on offer. And you have to spend skill points before you meet all related NPCs. Baldur's Gate also had a system with learning spells from spell books, but you found the spell books much more organically and at more suitable times during your exploration and it was easier to make the right decisions. This makes the game extremely tedious and frustrating. Also quite buggy, considering it's out for well over a year now (skill bar gets emptied randomly; journal constantly highlights old entries as new; ...).

Decent game but overrated

Spent like 60 hours finished the game. If you want a decent CRPG to kill time then you might grab this, if you want a perfect RPG this is not it. Story - Great example that dark/Catastrophe not always equal to deep/great character and story. All the faction in this game are unlikeable. Just evil, arrogance, selfish as hell. You end up just want to kill them all for the sake of rivellon. The last part is rushy and the ending is unsatisfy. I understand dev might want a plot hole for squeal but ending without fighting the greatest enemy faction is just not good. Combat - It have a good foundation for combat design but the level design and balance are really bad. First of all class balance is too bad. When mages can do great aoe damage+CC at range (and doesn't require good weapon because it scale on level/int) , and having many utility skill in pocket. Melee have trash damage even using the best weapon at the same level, short range/small size AOE means you need AP to walk( or teleport) near enemy, and the field system will end up give you disadvantage when your mage bombing your enemy. Balance even worse at end game when you can get good crit gear for your mages. Using AP for walking is tedious when you can just teleport/swap for 1 AP( +haste if you use huntman skill), you will end up just using movement skill all the way. And as other people already said, most of the combat in the game player will start at a very bad spot and enemy will on optimized spot. So swap/teleport are always the only way to win.

Incredible game

I'm not usually a fan of CRPGs, but after putting around 140 hours into DOS2 I can say that it is one of my favourite games of all time. The story is great, world is as immersive as it gets and the writing is excellent. Although it can be overwhelming and seem complex at first, once you get into the the swing of things it becomes extremely addictive.

Not that great

This will be one of the few reviews that dont praise it. I didnt like the prequel but I thought this looked better. The preset characters feel wooden and out of place, the voice actors for fane and red prince are so wrong, they just dont match. Right from the start I felt like I was in an area where I shouldnt be, all enemies have at least %40 more health and do more damage. This cant be down to a poorly made character as its only the begining really. Miss clicking can get you killed, I cant count how many whole barrels or bed rolls Ive picked up trying to navigate the oddly light environment. Just not impressed sadly.

Great RPG, except for new players

A detailed, complex RPG, with good characters and decent story and a beautiful world to explore. Veterans of the Divinty series are going to absolutely love it but new players might find the opening stages of the game frustrating due to the non-combat mechanics being poorly explained and early game combat being heavily weighted in favour of you opponents. To expand on these issues, the crafting system is simple but feels tacked on and completely irrrelivent, you will also need to seek out crafting materials if you want to make anything. it is also never explained in any way, even a simple quest requiring you to make a shirt would have been appreciated. You are never told that every almost every NPC can be traded with, easy enough to figure it out but this has causes another major issue especiialy in relation to the crafting system, if you want a needle to make a shirt? Have fun talking to every single NPC in the area to find who has a needle and then finding the other NPC who has some cloth. Now the combat, detailed and complex, great for Divinity veterans and hard core RPG gamers, a hellish frustration test for new players. Spells and abilites interact with each other in a variety of ways, figuring out combos is fun and interesting, sadly combat initiation is frustrating and will more than likey result in a few party wipes and resets, top of my list of issues is combat initiaion will likely involve your characters clumped togtether in a group and the first round will involve your entire party getting hit with muliple area of effect attacks, you will start yourt turn with no armor, a nice chunk of your health missing and possibly on fire. The worst part of all, you cannot reunite Buddy and Emmie. This point in particular Larian should ashamed of (there is a mod to fix it).
