Key Features
Overkill Brings Huge Rewards – The Overkill system is an added feature where characters can stack damage beyond the health of an enemy for bonus experience! Try to inflict as much damage to all the monsters for bigger rewards.
Beware of the Berserker – During dungeon exploration and battle, a faceless, black figure will appear out of nowhere. The figure will also display an area of attack once it appears. Mai and her squad must step away from the Berserker’s area of attack, as it will instantly kill anyone with one single blow. Run away from the Berserker in the dungeon or defeat all the existing monsters in the battlefield to escape!
Day n’ Night – Mai will need to explore the town of Le Choara during the day and speak with the townspeople to find out clues as to where her sister is. By night, Mai will fight her way through dark creatures stylized in a turn-based RPG. Experience the story through the lens of a visual novel during the day and battle it out against horrific creatures by night!
Don’t Call it a Knockback – The Knockback system is back in Death end re;Quest 2, but this time, Mai and her squad can smack Shadow Matter even harder! Combo your attacks by flinging monsters to other party members!

Idea factory still managed to censor the game regardless of making a fan survey asking if they wanted the original Characters design from the Japanese first game (Western released first game one was also censored)
After a majority vote said they wanted the uncensored versions, they went back on their word and still censored the game. If you want more censored garbage because some people get triggered by skin you buy this game, if you are for freedom of expression and want creators to create anything they want and express it in any way you don't buy this game.
In the long run, if you buy this game will ensure more censorship for future titles.
I originally discovered this game because the original DE;RQ1 was promoted by a YouTuber by the name of "RomanainTvee" or just "Vee" who made a video talking about how the developers at Idea Factory for the first game actually releaased a poll asking us the fans/consumers what we wanted in their release of the game to PC.
Uncensored or the Censorship model for the PS4.
When it came to the PC release it was overwhelmingly in-favor of the uncensored version, open shut case.
They for some reason even after knowing that the PC Community prefers uncensored/original works, asked again for DE;RQ 2's pre release. This was the first red flag.
Pretty much all a characters even down to their designs are inherently censored. They're either heavily covered up under the guise of being the original designs or returning combat characters from the previous game having their original designs altered for the sake of censorship.
Idea Factory cannot be trusted to not censor their games no matter the platform even though they have sufficient data to suggest that players atleast for the PC Version prefer their games to be uncensored or originally interpretation of a(n) developers work.
on these grounds alone do not purchase this game or really any release from Idea Factory gonig forward.
it's 80% of Slice of life, school-life Yuri VN w/a "mystery" element, none of your favorite characters comeback in any meaningful way, Arata & Shina aren't together and never link up in the story. Reality Warping + Time Traveling elements make you question what's happening in the story, it's honestly all over the place if you take this story standalone with no context to the OG, and even with that context you'll be lost..
Overall I'm not going to focus on Combat because this isn't Lost Ark, the Story comes first and the story alone is a reason to not grab this game. The Censorship makes this game dead in the water for me.
I'll recc DE;RQ1, but this sequel; is terrible sequel & is incoherent.
In this delivery, quite a few interactions were added which end in illustrations, which compared to the limited number of illustrations in the first game leaves a lot of satisfaction, also this game has a good plot, and better interactions on world map.
Ah, Compile Heart games, where do I even start with you? So let me get this out of the way. This game is NOT the typical funny hahaha kind of Compile Heart game.
Pros
- Dark story - (This is the draw of the game, the exact opposite of what Compile Heart games typically are.)
- Battle System - (Glitch Mode, Knockback attacks, and customization of attack combos, so there is a bit of strategy.)
- Graphics - (The VN parts ,character portraits, are superbly done. The Boss monster design is unique, and a horror atmosphere are also well done.)
- Sound - (The voice acting is all solid, the soundtrack is great, and the opening song is one of the best I have heard in a Compile Heart game.)
- Short - ( About 15-20 hours a quick game by most JRPG standards.)
- Fan Service ( Enough said there.)
Cons
- Performance - (This is a general issue with Compile Heart games across the board. A beefer machines can brute force better performance, but given what the game is pushing from a graphically POV, the game needs better optimizations.)
- Fan Service - ( Not that so much that there is fan service, but most some of it does not fit thematically with the dark story)
- Characters - ( There are four main characters that the story focuses on, but there are other playable characters, that don't have much beyond just being party members. 1 or 2 of those main characters will either love them or hate them kind of characters as well.)
- Difficulty ( Easy is just blow through the game kind of easy not a challenge, so good if you like the story, but bad if you want to get into the gameplay.)
Overall, I enjoyed the time that I put into Death End Re; Quest 2. It was nice to have kind of a shorter JRPG to play. I also enjoyed the very dark and much more adult-oriented themes this game presented, it is a nice break from the usual Compile Heart formula of games. So I would recommend this game if you are looking for a shorter JRPG with a dark story.
