An Emotional Rollercoaster
Days Gone is the story of Deacon St John's fight for his and his biker-brother Boozer's survival and also his grief for his dead wife. He is a bitter, cynical character who is plagued with guilt for not being there when Sarah, his dead wife, needed him and died. He takes a lot of risks like he has a death wish and doesn't care much for other people except Boozer. In fact he keeps other people mostly at distance. Because of this Deacon appears superficially like a selfish bastard but he has also redeeming traits like not harming unarmed women. Deacon's story plays two years after a virus spread in 2017 worldwide among humans and animals, mutated them and made them feral and highly aggressive. It's Days Gone's version of a zombie apocalypse. The showplace is a beautiful scenery of mountains and forests and is located in Oregon, USA. The player can upgrade his bike, buy better weapons, craft melee weapons and other useful stuff. Also a basic character system is implemented, so that the player can earn XP and unlock skills. While the gameplay isn't the best I have ever seen and missions can become repetitive, it's still enjoyable. And combined with the story there should be enough reasons to finish it. Sure the story starts quiet slow, almost boring. But it becomes better. If you start caring for the characters, the story will 'kick you in the feels' so to speak, hard and not just once. Some people say that Days Gone ends in a cliffhanger and I can understand why after I kept playing when the credits were shown - Days Gone allows you to keep playing after the main story. After finishing the main story there are 4 more side missions that answer some minor questions and one of them is a "to be continued". So if you are hesitant to get the game because of that cliffhanger: there is no real reason to. Regarding the data collection: according to TechRaptor that "feature" is turned off when Limited Data is selected. And like some others I want a Days Gone 2.
