Breath of Fire IV

Amazing game, super stoked they made a port for this and gives me hope for more amazing game ports to come.

When it was announced that Breath of Fire IV is going to be like preserved/restored here, I thought they're going to make a complete PC port of the PS1 original like adding uncensored cutscenes from the Japanese original and translated to English, adding in the right font, fixing and adding in more audio and more. They didn't. It's 2025 and by now, you guys can code/program this game better 1. Four cutscenes weren't there for what GOG and Capcom USA were doing 2. The font ain't from the PS1 and the localization/spelling are off. Map texts for example are off on some places like the misalignments and there's still space for more 3. Special variation of music after the boss fight isn't there 4. The audio didn't seemlessly loop There are more that I spotted while I was streaming this game and it even crashed on me once. I love this game but Censored Gaming showed me more of this game and made me appreciate it alot. I wished they could've make the extra effort to add alot from the Japanese and translated to English, all uncensored. Once they do, it deserves to be part of what I believed to be GOG Preservation Program

This is one of my favorite RPG's back in the day and it's a true gem. From the art style to the music, the classic RPG game play and some cool additions makes this one of the best games of my childhood. This one and Breath of Fire 3 are the best entries of the franchise in my opinion and are a ton of fun. Many hours of grinding and hidden things to find for completionists, but the rewards are well worth it. Very happy to see this brought to new systems.

As an avid participant of the emulation community, we've had one singular complaint, the ability to buy these games in a legitimate fashion. This is a perfect port of Breath of Fire 4, complete with resolution settings, and controller mapping. The tone and storytelling of the BOF series proved that Capcom once had the chops to go toe to toe with Squaresoft. While BOF 3 is my favorite of the series, (please put that up for purchase at some point in time CAPCOM.) BOF 4 has some of the best sprite work in any of Capcom's titles outside of their fighting/beat'em up games from the same time period. While these games are older, it doesn't show in their presentation and solid gameplay formulas that have proven the test of time. This is an easy to get into series, featuring a boy named Ryu in all of them, who always seems to have a great hold on being a great protagonist. Try this game out if you love well made turn based JRPGS with amazing music and an unforgettable story.
