Mechwarrior meets X-Com

So, I barely even heard of the game this is based on but I'm always down for big stompy robots. Battletech is a bit rough around the edges, with some light performance issues and some lackluster textures here and there. The atmosphere is great however, just like it was in Shadowrun and it gets you in there with great attention to detail (the Mechwarrior part). Limb damage, tons of customization options and many different approaches to how to take on you opponent. The story mode does a great job of letting you choose how to play with its choises of money vs salvaga and reward vs reputation. I really like this game and I hope it does well. Always remember, chicks dig giant robots.

An enjoyable game, but...

So, let's get one thing straight from the start... if you're looking for Table Top Battletech, look somewhere else. The game is not, nor was it ever promised to be so. As a game baesd on Battletech, though, it's pretty good, but has a few annoying flaws for me. The Good: Inspiration abilities, which I totally hated in beta, are reworked and pretty cool. They don't have much use in the early game but become critical later when you're facing 8 pristine heavy and assault Mechs The Interface. You know whether you'll be in cover, how much evasion you build up, what your weapon % will be, whether you have LOS, and what range all at a glance. Lots of settings to adjust if you so wish and it gives me everything I need to be successful. The maps and terrain are varied enough that the game never gets boring or rinse/repeat. Well to me, anyway, I guess others here have a different opinion. But different maps force you to make different choices and formulate different plans of attack. I think they're one of the strongest points of the game. When it comes down to it, the game is just fun to me. Cons: Headshots... oh my god, the headshots. Not me hitting other Mechs in the head, mind you, it's them hitting me. The last mission I had 5 head hits across my Mechs. You don't die from it (usually), but it's annoying to always have to send guys to the medbay. So I have found that cockpit mods are essential if you don't want to deal with that Which leads me to other mods. Really, most are quite useless except for the Gyros that boost your stability. Oh, the Exchanger, if you can find one, is pretty awesome too, but leg and arm mod as well as other gyro mods cost too much tonnage and give useless melee boosts Abilities are largely useless. I have found that Bulwark, multi-target and breaching shot are all you need, though it can be useful to have someone with the ability to allow them to move in a higher initiative order

Das war wohl nix....

Schlechtes Balancing, ständig hat man das Gefühl verarscht zu werden vom Programm. Ladezeiten trotz SSD echt ein Witz. Ständige Ruckler, trotz guter Hardware. Hier hat man das Gefühl, wieder mal ein Spiel ist ca 6 Monate zu früh erschienen. Spielspass singt rapide in den Keller. Das ganze geht auch besser, siehe Mechwarrior und Mechcommander. Bin kein Neuling in diesen Spielen, es geht eben auch besser. Hat zwar gute Grafik im Gelände, aber halt schlechtes Gameplay. Fazit, schade hab mir mehr erwartet.

Great turn based strategy game, lots of flaws though.

After 150+ hours in the game i can certainly say i had a lot of fun, however the game is not without its flaws though i find them mostly torelable, aside from the technical flaws that others already said. The best parts of the game are the battles and the mech customization though they go hand by hand. The game has a lot of mechs, 60+ if you count the variants (and you should) each of them are completely customizable, you can change the amount of armor is fields, what weapons it has and because of that the role of the mech . It is really fun to get a mech and think of the many modifications you can make it and is really gratifying to field your personal build and watch it blow up other mechs. This is definitily the best part of the game for me. The battles are also really fun, because we are talking about mechs there is not many ways to avoid getting shot, cover only reduces damage and only the fastest mechs can get enought evasion to make the enemy miss, because of that the game revolves around tanking hits, tumbling mechs with stability damage, and destroying the body parts that have low armor. How you build your mechs is key as is how you build your mechwarriors. The flaws lie in the repetiveness of the missions past a certain point, as they all tend to devolve into straight battles with the objective of the mission being abandoned in favour of just killing all mechs. The game also has a giant map which however feels lifeless do to lack of lore, events, or even noticible differences between systems and factions , you basically can spent the entire game in the same sectors and it won't make a difference. The story is decent and has the best missions, however they are nothing to impressive and the story while solid in my opinion is nothing too amazing, the characters also lack depht with few conversations in the campaing and few interactions in events. The game also has events à la FTL which while supposed to spice the time between missions tend to mostly repeat themselves.
