Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition

Another World is unlike any other 2D Action Platformer I've played. I knew nothing of this game when I purchased it other than that it looked interesting and that it was notoriously difficult. Both of these were certainly true as I learned rather early on. I truly appreciate classics like this one, where literally nothing is handed to you and you must figure out the next step in the puzzle on your own. The puzzles in this game are fairly difficult - at least by today's standards. In fact, most of the puzzles proved more difficult than games such as Limbo or Inside. If you are looking for a rather unique experience that is unforgiving, but highly rewarding, I recommend this game to the fullest extent. I purchased it for $2 during the summer sale, but I'd say that it's actually worth its regular price as I plan to show this game to friends and family - the atmosphere alone is enough of an experience to share with others. As far as replayability, I would compare it to reading your favorite short story. Press play and travel to Another World.

Whatever historic merits Another World may have, it simply doesn't hold up today. This is the least enjoyable game I have played this year, and one of the most unpleasant single-player experiences I've ever had. That's due to gameplay that combines the worst aspects of old adventure puzzlers, including an abundance of one-hit kills, with a mediocre combat system further ruined by stiff and unresponsive controls. All of this is further made more unbearable by the absence of a save function. In a single session, the game will autosave your progress. However, even this is unpredictable and random. Expect to replay the same sections over and over again. It's hard to know what's worse; replaying easy but tedious parts, or refighting combats where victory owes as much to luck as skill that you've already won. It was the latter led to me quitting the game unfinished; I'd beaten what a guide tells me was essentially the final boss, only to get killed by an unpredictable, undodgeable laser blast. Faced with playing through the last shoot out for a twentieth time, I decided I'd had enough. I got this game for a 75% discount, and I still feel like that was too expensive. Spend your money elsewhere.

I've been hearing awesome things about this game for at least a decade. I didn't know much about it apart from it being old and using rotoscoping. And of course everybody claiming it's the best thing since sliced bread. I didn't want it to get spoiled for me so I decided to buy it once it gets discounted heavily. I eventually bought it for $3. Waste of money. Yes, the game looks sweet. No doubt it was a massive achievement back in the day. It looks nice enough today and does sell the alien world well, it has this Star Wars vibe to it. But the gameplay is balls. Impossibly difficult and frustrating trial-and-error puzzling and platforming with horrible and unresponsive controls. And for what, just to run from one screen to another to get killed a billion times. A walkthrough for this game is 20 minutes long. You'll get the best experience that way, saving money, time and frustration in the process. This game is not Mario, Portal or BioShock which you need to play to experience fully.

Se extraña el viejo sistema de "códigos" que ayudaban a "conservar" los avances del juego. Ahora el juego se auto guarda y te muestra como "episodios" de juego. Se agradece a GOG.com por tener este clásico juego de acción, con tintes cinematográficos. Le coloco 4 estrellas por los problemas de estabilidad que ha tenido el juego, que se subsanan, colocando la compatibilidad con Win 98/ XP SP2/ Win y deshabilitando la optimización de pantalla completa. The old system of "codes" that helped to "preserve" the progress of the game is missed. Now the game auto saves and shows you as "episodes" of gameplay. I give it 4 stars because of the stability problems that the game has had, which are corrected by adding compatibility with Win 98/ XP SP2/ Win and disabling full screen optimization.

...and it was beyond "Nintendo hard" then and still is today. And on top of that it has a gripping story despite a total lack of voice work. Without a doubt, this is one of the more underrated games of all time.
