JohnnyDollar: I knew something was wrong when installing it, because it took about 10 minutes for that patch to be applied.
That is actually normal. All main assets of the game were changed, which equals to 20GB worth of files.
Applying diff patches to such large files takes a while. But that way patches can be considerably smaller (200MB instead of 2GB, for example)

Thiev: in main game folder there is a file GFSDK_SSAO.win32. Remove it somewhere else outside the game folder and check if the game will behave differently.

Later, please do the same with Plugins folder found in [game]\WL2_Data.
Nope, it's still broken after moving those two files.

Nothing changes - still crashes and freezes.
Some people on Steam seem to be reporting the same issue.
EDIT. Checked windowed and fullscreen, same problem: 'Oops' crash message on New Game, loading freezes.

Still crash city here as well.

Then I need to wait for the download to complete and ping someone from Product team to contact game developers. If there will be any update on the matter, I'll get back here.
Disappointing, but not a huge deal for me. I still have to complete my Fallout 1 run and I also have the PoE Beta to keep me busy. :)

I thought that too, but didn't notice a change in the time stamps for the folders. Now I see it in the streaming folder.

I removed those two files that you mentioned above (GFSDK_SSAO.win32 & HBAO_Plugin.dll). It still crashes at the character creation screen for new game.

It was a wild guess anyway. These two were the only new files brought by patch that didn't exist in the first version.
This is outrageous! I demand free Red Boots DLC for my trouble!!! ;)
Kiddin', it's time to reinstall the game and go on with the story :) Good thing it's GOG and I don't have to download everything again and I'm not forced to use the patch once it's out :)

Thanks. 3GB to go, until I can have a look at that...
..or I could go back to work, but it's cold outside D: I hope we'll manage to fix everything remotely.

May I suggest disabling the download for now? :) Some people might get angry...

I cannot do that myself and our Product guys are probably en route home :/
Until they get there and respond I'll have to deal with those angry users myself ;)

Edit:
In the meantime, devs posted some common workarounds for WL2 issues on Steam: :: clicky ::

If game files are actually corrupt it probably won't help much. Still, check them out just in case.

I knew better than to immediately download and install this patch, but I did it anyway. :/

At any rate, it looks like it's on GOG's end, not inXile. Seeing as that is the case, maybe it won't be too hard to track down and rectify.
