Newbie: oh ok Oh....well I haven't played SpellForce in a long time so have forgotten how the story continuation worked between the three games(so I guess they're not direct sequels, like with this game?), I've yet to play #2 of it too; they're sitting in on the shelves - I haven't found the time to install and play it...hahaha So many games on backlog......hahaha
huan: Following text could be considered spoiler for some people, so beware...
It's a bit convoluted, it took a fair bit of remembering... You have TWO FIRST GAMES, Order of Dawn and Breath of winter. Each has it's own separate storyline, and in each the main char gets some artifact during the quest. Both artifacts are needed in the third part. You can import your char from either of the previous games, and the two heroes meet near the end (one of them guided by AI). There are some minor variations based on which base char you import.
There was an artifact in each game...? I don't remember that.....must have been so long that I've completely forgot what the game was about, but I do remember playing it. I was the warrior(if that's even the correct class they had) dude....I remember slashing things with whilst dual-wielding two nice looking swords....what were those black metal like guys called? Those were a pain in the ass when there were more than 10 to deal with, especially the big ones...oh god........so if I get get swarmed and surrounded, that's gg for me....hahaha
I remember not building a base and just go straight to using my main guy to kill everything. Of course some of the campaigns, if I remember right, I did need an army of sorts to get pass a *huge* blockade.....as soloing them all would have been near impossible....
There was an archer class, if memory serves me right, but you had to be *really* precise in your shots to get them whilst they're moving about...which was a pain....so you had to shoot like a couple or so more steps(depending on the distance you are from them) in front of them - I only tried that class for a bit and that sorta frustrated me so just stuck to good old melee class. There was a sorcerer class too but I don't think I tried him.....
huan: It was great game at it's time, one of the few I got on physical media. Not sure how well it has aged, and definitely not an example of easy transition between the parts :)
I had the Universe edition on physical media. That included the Platinum and the two SpellForce 2 games; the base game and the expansion pack. On GoG, since I liked the game and that the third expansion pack for SpellForce 2 wasn't on physical media, I bought everything SpellForce, and DRM free is a nice touch too so I don't have to keep re-entering the CD key each time I have to launch the game.... *stares at SpellForce 1*
Ok well, I've gone ahead and bought the Final Cut from GoG rather than Steam, coz you know DRM free and the fact that I already got the first two on GoG anyways, and it looks like they do supply the download for the partial version of Van Helsing III! I could also download the Final Cut as well. I've actually downloaded both now(took a while with a ~1MB down line)....took up about 40GB of space, includes the HD textures...
