Topware is removing console commands from all versions of Two Worlds II it sells in order to make way for microtransactions to buy console command cheats. They have already uploaded the crippled version to GoG but it will not be updated here until at least Monday.

This is a public service announcement to tell you to download your copy of Two Worlds II from your account before the crippled version is uploaded.

Thanks for the heads up - just finished downloading. +1
Ugh. It's coming to GoG, too?
Thanks for the warning.

I still can't believe these greedy f...ers really added microtransactions to a single player RPG.
Thanks for the heads up. Already had it installed but double checked the auto updates were disabled just in case. Still knee deep in the first one, at over a hundred hours, and wouldn't have gotten to this in time if anything wasn't right so this really did help.
Absolutely disgusting.

To be honest, I don't give a damn about Two Worlds, but I care about this storefront. I had only heard about this from Jim Sterling's video and came to see if the GOG version is being affected. If it actually is - then that just sets a horrifying precedent for this service's standards regarding scummy practices like this.

I remember when we were vehemently against games being released on GOG with seperately purchasable DLC or bonus content, but then developers and publishers just kept going with it until we got sick of raging about it.

I swear that if microtransactions become a normal thing here then I'm quitting video games. There's only so much of this greedy bullshit that I can tolerate.

The microtransactions I expect will require GOG Galaxy, seeing as the Steam version uses Steam Marketplace.
Yet another reason not to use online store client rubbish.

It's the best Store Client, only because I can refuse to install, or use it.

Still if they are disabling the console commands, better to have the unaltered offlline installer as usual.

Apparently console commands are being restored? (There's a post with a comment confirming this from a dev on the Steam page, which I can't link to.) Still, shouldn't have been removed in the first place.

Even if they leave console commands in the microtransactions are still coming.

GOG better damn well not disable the rollback feature for this game - that would be inexcusable.
This is one of the reasons why DRM (e.g. Steam) is evil.

It gives developers the ability to RETROACTIVELY screw up even the old games.

I really hope GOG will NEVER lower themselves to such pathetic behaviour.

What really ticks me off about the whole thing is that in the beginning the developers announced that the DLC would be free for anyone who already owned the game. Made sense as I thought they were doing sort of an EE version to enhance sales of the game--like CDProjekt did. Nope, the DLC is not free on Steam! I will not buy from a company that lies to its customers like this. I bought the game years ago, when it shipped, on Steam, before it was made available on GOG.

Just to clear the air:

The console is enabled in the GOG version. Please note that in order to enable the cheats you will need to enter "cotcheats" (without " " ) in the console. All the cheats themselves should remain the same.

Do you plan on updating past the 2.1.0.24 version released around Sept of 2015... also will the HD Update be coming here?

I ask to see if I should archive this install since its 4.76GB. I would like to know prior to deep archive to save space.

Yes, I know, now. What they delivered versus what they initially promised is much different. Supposedly, from the initial developer info, anyone who already owned the game would get the CoT DLC free of charge. And originally, the CoT update was to contain the HD Update as an upgrade to the entire TWII game. Now I am given to understand that CoT is a stand-alone addition which does not upgrade the TWII original game in any fashion whatever. The so-called "HD Update" that I downloaded from Steam (I own both Steam and GOG versions ot TWII Velvet Edition) was, according to Steam, a whopping 7.5 MBs (yes Megabytes, not Gigabytes) in size. I immediately saw a noticeable improvement in the rendering engine for TWII--but of course with such a small upgrade for the engine, there were no new textures included for the TWII game itself, etc. Big disappointment.

Some people never saw the original developer announcements, but I did, and I've spoken with others on the Internet who also saw it. It never crossed my mind that they'd pull this bait'n switch sort of thing--especially for us early purchasers of TWII several years ago. I don't think GOG has even received the HD Update yet.

TWII needed the work! Not a whole lot of work, but the content could definitely be improved markedly, and it would change the entire saleability of the game--but, alas, such is not the case. TWII was a very good game that could have a *great*--with some work. Ah, well...

EDIT: It Appears that the GOG version of Velvet has indeed changed and it is the 2.0 version of TWII: Velvet. (THat's 1.37 with the tiny 2.0 update added.) Am downloading now and will verify here later. Have no idea why they could not simply have made a ~7mb patch, however...;)

Edit 2: I don't know if the GOG version has been patched--the TWII executable reads 1.3.7, but the files have definitely changed in size compared with the .xx.24 former version--but curiously, GOG's ID for these files is 1.3.7_(2.0)_(13261).exe but the Steam version reads 2.0.0.0 , and when the program is run and the initial setup screen is displayed, the GOG version ID's itself as 1.3.7, while the Steam version ID's itself as 2.0. Very confusing at this point...;) There is a 100MB + difference in size, with the current GOG files being that much larger than the former xx.24 files. As the only upgrade I saw for Steam's 1.3.7 ID'ed its size at 7.5MBs, I can't imagine why the GOG file sizes are > 100MBs larger than the older GOG files TWII install files.
