As the title says. When I launch the game my firewall blocks an outgoing connection to the IP address 46.105.121.139.

I have no reason to assume it's anything malicious, but I'm just wondering why it's happening.
And if it's not necessary for the game to work (obviously it isn't) why not do away with it?
anyone?
It probably wants to sync information like hours and achievements, though I didn't check the traffic so I don't know for sure. Does GOG have cloud saving yet? It might be trying to sync that too, if it is implemented.
I see the same on my firewall.

I do find is a bit strange. The game is single-player only so why.

When trying to find out what the game is caling ( IP 46.105.121.139) is a location in Paris, France.
server called is named ks384123.kimsufi.com

one can see that here http://46.105.121.139.ipaddress.com/ (and at several other sites after Google for whois 46.105.121.139)

For now I deny that access. But wold like to know more of what is going on here.
Is this created by some virus that my avast do not see.
Or is it something the game is programmed to do, and if so I wold like to know why ??!!.

/regards

game doesn't need online connection. for sure its something not good for your gaming.
Galaxy Communication
No I do not think it is galaxy. I am not running it.
I did download the game using the GOG downloaded (from https://www.gog.com/downloader) and thus do start witcher 3 directly.

Connecting to http://ks384123.kimsufi.com/ or to http://46.105.121.139/ one see the same page.

(46.105.121.139 is the address the firewall blocks)

you see this:

""""""""""
It works!

This is the default web page for this server.

The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet.
"""""""""""

Am planing to try to run the game from a fresh installed win7 with a fresh made download of witcher later this week.
That way I can figure out it this in realty is caused by the game. Or if it is caused from some virus that my anti virus software do not spot.

PS. so far only to people me and frappas (who started this subject) have reported seeing this behavior from the game. So it cold be caused a virus that botch of us happen to have. But my guess is that it is something caused by the game.

The IP address you are seeing is OVH, a cloud service that CDP use. There is nothing untoward -- TW3 has achievements, and achievements require cloud services.

Thak you Hickory that do explain it. So it should not be blocked in firewall.

It can safely be blocked if you are not interested in achievements, but there is no need to worry otherwise.
Achievement cold also have the smart side effect to give CDP metrics information, and I certainly wont mind helping giving that. So am opening my firewall. I do not care for achievements it do not matter to me.

I'm not running the galaxy client either, but when I played the witcher, a service called Galaxy Communication was running. look in your wither folder, and tell me what you see, look at processes running, when your playing the witcher, look at your services.msc

you don't need galaxy client to be running..

There can only be a Galaxy service running if you have installed Galaxy -- TW3 does NOT install Galaxy client. The support files are there for... support. I am running TW3 right now, and there is no Galaxy service or client running, and that is because I have never installed Galaxy.

all I was saying is that the galaxy services are set to start automatic on startup of your system, if you start the client or not.. he said he wasnt using the client. all I was saying is, the services were still running. unless he disabled them.

I just thought it might be the Galaxy Communication service calling home.

"galaxycommunication.exe" is the process that runs (separately from witcher3.exe), and it runs even without the Galaxy client going. It's part of TW3 and presumably used to interface with Galaxy if present, along with tracking achievements and such if not.
