Who else found him great? I think he was hilarious! Like Sile said, he is like and overgrown baby. Cute in his own way :)
Probably the most sick and twisted character ever created :) Too bad he was castrated in the end...
Somewhat reminded me of Heck from Alpha Protocol-just as unpredictable and cruel :)
Certainly one of the most memorable and entertaining characters.
A shame there was no way to stick with him till the end.
He's indeed a unique and interesting character. He always seemed quite off, and by the end of the game I found out why.

Definitely one of the most memorable characters in W2.
I dunno man ,maybe it's just because i really loved roche, he is one of the most bad ass characters i've seen in a game but i hated Dethmold although i think that does make him kind of memorable.
And i loved it when Roche castrates him and then slits his throat, the bastard.
I thought having the only openly gay man in the game be a freakish, evil villain whose near last act is raping his male sex slave was kind of tasteless. This is coming from a heterosexual Christian, mind you.

When I found out he was gay, I was like "DAAAAAAMN. So that's why he seemed funny."

Good lulz with him having his balls shoved in his pie hole, even though he's still one of my fav chars in W2.

As for him being gay, I don't really care. I like to think of it as a jab at the Dragon Age series.

I didn't like Dethmold. Not your usual boo-hiss don't like him he's a villian dislike, but just, ho hum, yawn, another power hungry mage, snore, seen a million of 'em.

However, when I played Roche's side of things, I found he actually has a sense of humor - sick, but it's there - and got to like him a lot more. I think his model could have been a little more dramatic, or something, he really didn't quite cross the threshold of being a truly memorable character, but I found, he's more interesting and entertaining that I originally thought.
What the heck? Where did it say he way gay? I took all the conversation options and never got a hint of anything.

[Spoilerish]
if you take roche's path and then decide to help him in ch3 instead of going for Triss, you will find out.

I knew I miss something good for not helping Roche at the end, and I so wanted to Kill Deathmold.

Edk45: Dethmold appreciation
I'd appreciate if he were shot out of a cannon. Into a brick wall.

Seriously though, his character was really well done.

and all those other sick bastards who were straight must really upset the homosexuals out there. who cares what his orientation is. he's a hilarious character bottom line.
I was kinda disappointed that not saving triss didn't result in a consequence. I chose to save the girl because I thought it would stabalize the world, but apparently it turns out that the end result is the same; just that triss likes me more.

On topic, Dethmold is one of the best characters ever.

I know this is kind of necrobumping, but I agree. As a gay man I was a bit disturbed by how that was handled. Was the castration because he was gay? I mean, none of the other evil male villains were treated that way when killed.

So to take a jab at the Dragon Age series, gay males have to be portrayed as sick and evil and in need of a good castration? Gotcha.
I admit that I pursed my lips in scepticism when the only homosexual man portrayed in the game (wherein the sexual preference was made clear), was the one who arguably was maniacally evil - and adding that castration scene to the mix (why couldn't he do that to Henselt? I was much more angry at him!) - but I really don't want to sit around here, talking about that.

I'm one of those who really appreciate Dethmold as a character. The way he speaks, especially in English, and his general mannerisms, really won me over quite early in the game (the first time I went with Roche, anyway). I only wish there had been a bit more nuance to him - when he starts off Chapter 2 by screaming like some cartoon villain about destruction and mayhem, I just shook my head in embarrassment - and that Geralt had a chance to, at least to some extent, befriend him. Possibly only in a professional fashion, sure, but still... Geralt's automatically quite rude and unpleasant towards Dethmold, when all he does it want to shake his hand and offer him a cup of tea! He's obviously still evil and deceitful, eventually leading to the downfall of the Blue Stripes and such, but chasing after him would feel so much more if it actually felt like he had betrayed you, in some way, which is hard to achieve if he's portrayed as your enemy from the get-go.

Anyway, I still like him a lot, and the fact that he seems to develop a bit of a crush on Geralt might just be my own wishful thinking, but it makes it all the more sweeter to be around him. :P
