Well, after playing through this game I just wanted to get my two cents out there, because I was extremely disappointed with all the bugs. Although the story line is worth it and this is a decent game, if you are going to continue to sell it you really need to develop a patch or something to fix all the issues.

I am not computer savvy by any means, but the second I opened the game (playing on Windows 7) I immediately noticed a CONSTANT screen flicker, as well as weird color glitch. By alt-tabbing, I was able to get rid of the color glitch, but the constant flicker proved impossible to get rid of. I searched on all the other forums and followed the advice of multiple people (starting the game in the "programs folder" (.exe file), running as administrator, running it in Windows 95, disabling various things, keeping a "windows window" open etc.) but the flicker remained there for the entire game.

As if this wasn't annoying enough, the game also crashed roughly every 10-15 minutes, which meant that I had to save ridiculously often just to get through it (every 2-5 minutes).

All in all, I'd say it was worth it to get through the story...but it was definitely not an enjoyable experience due to all the bugs. This product is more than faulty and is in desperate need of being fixed!!!!!!
I agree. This is one of the great classics. My wife and I love this game. We played it when we started dating years ago and recently played it again. We enjoyed the game, but the constant crashing was almost unbearable. We had to put it down for a while because the frustration was affecting the experience.

The game was stable for me the whole way through. Have you contacted support on the issue? Usually they will request some system information (and tell you how to get it), then suggest what you need to do to get it working (possibly driver updates or similar).
Yeah, a while ago when I first purchased it. I followed all of their instructions. Was told the same thing found in the support section of the game and the many forum posts. Ended up with the same issues. This is the only GOG game I've had trouble with.
I'm also facing the same problems. Including quite annoying crash issues.
However game itself is really a gem and never gets me bored. I can't stop playing to see what's gonna happen next.
It's a shame that, for now, frequent saving is the only solution we have.
on win Vista seems everything run fine. The game just freezed (without crash) just only once when using a

Hi
I just found my old Sanitarium game... and installed it.
I used to play it on Win98 or NT, it was fine.
On Win7 I just found a way to solve graphic bugs.

Try this :
- launch your game
- press CTRL ALT DEL
- go to task manager
- go to Process
- find Explorer & righ clic on it
- stop it (don't panic)
- ALT TAB to Sanitarium game

You should have clean graphics.
If Explorer didn't reload itself, return to task manager > File > Execute new task > type 'explorer'
You can reload explorer while game's running.
explorer should be automatically restarted anyway. good tip :)
This is the only game i am disappointed so much from GOG. Game is buggy as hell. Why did you even release the game in this state gog?
I have to chime in and agree that this is the one game I've bought from GOG that I regret. Not because the game is bad, but because I seriously can't play for more than 2 minutes before something makes it crash. Tried all of the tips and tricks listed, reinstalled, the works. Still crashes constantly. What a shame.
I'm assuming nobody is running on Windows 7 or 8? Because this game is not supported on these OSes.

Good point.

First, I have to say that the game worked beautifully for me and I am running Windows Vista.

Unfortunately, I've noticed some of the people having problems state they are running Windows 7 and complain that this is a very buggy game, and it's not.

It's kind of disappointing to see such a great game being run down by people running it on an unsupported system and discouraging others from checking it out.

Make sure you check the requirements before you buy a game, as tfishell pointed out, because the game card clearly states that only Windows XP or Vista is supported.

Thanks.

Perhaps it's time for a complete remake compatible with new OSes. I sent a message to http://www.xsgames.biz/index.php (the publisher here on GOG) with the idea.
It doesn't work properly (without crashing) on either of my XP machines either! It works but is very glitchy graphics wise on my Vista laptop.
Great game, but somewhat spoilt by the unstable nature.
Well, I'm installing it now, so I'm not aware of the possible bugs and glitches of this version, but I played Sanitarium for a lot of years, now, from my original CDs of the game and I never had any issue whatsoever. Granted, I don't have a computer with Win 7 or 8, but I never had any issue playing it on Win 98, 2000, XP and Vista. Once I have the GOG version installed I'll update this post, but I'm pretty confident the game will run smoothly.

Even if it has some bugs and glitches running on some machines, you guys shouldn't complain this harshly, because this truly is an underrated, overlooked piece of video gaming art and a lot of people may be put off by all of the posts complaining about some issues instead of talking about, I don't know?, how good this game is, perhaps?

EDIT: Ok, I've been playing it for an hour and a half, now, and encountered no bugs whatsoever. There's no color glitch, no crashing, nothing... I'm truly sorry for all you guys having trouble running the game, but I encountered no issue during this first hour with it... still as good as I remember it, running smoother than my boxed copy, with shorter loading times and better control sensitivity.
