There's so many possibilities to narrow down specifics. I could be off on this, but did you ask the healer about the specific ingredients she would buy, and then get them in the wild; i.e., not from the troll in the cave. At certain experience points, harder monsters like the trolls appear in the wild.

That may account for 2 points. Some things I forget to do as a Thief because they are totally irrelevant for a Thief to do. For example, did you go to see Erasmus for 3 points? That would total the five, but in reality, there are so many possibilities that this is a hunt we might not find the answer to.

This is also why I record my QFG sessions when I am trying to get 100%. :D It helps with routing and it helps with finding where I made mistakes to miss points. I did this with QFG2 and found that you needed to word particular phrases in a certain way.

Zachski: No, I've noticed Calming the Bear using magic does not actually grant 5 points.

There have been so many times I've played a Magic User where I missed 5 points and couldn't figure it out. It turned out that I had Calmed the Bear, but never FED the Bear. As such, I missed those points entirely.

So believe me, it's definitely *feeding* the bear.
Seems you are right - it's not listed in Mage's points section... Thought it should be obvious thing to do in case of this class (have always played as a fighter/paladin)... Kinda weird they missed it :)
I think a lot of points guides merely assumed that casting Calm would be the exact same action/result as feeding the bear, even though feeding the bear makes it long-term docile and Calm just lasts until it wears off.

It's an annoying distinction, and one that wasn't changed in the VGA remake.

Regardless, thanks everyone for your help. Couldn't find an answer. Didn't help that I took a break halfway through playing in order to play other QFG games.

I wish I could mark multiple posts as solutions.

Oh, sorry, I missed your post somehow.

I checked it. I got another set of claws and beard and sold them to the healer. No more points.

I went up to see Erasmus. No more points.

I don't think you actually get points for asking the healer about components...? I'll check the list again. I know you have to ask her about them in the VGA version to be able to even *collect* them.

I also know that I already did the mandrake sidequest because, among other things, I would be missing more than 5 points if I didn't. I think. I also name my saves and I can clearly see the one I used while doing the sidequest so there's that, too.

The thing is, I'm obviously mistaken about something that I thought I did but clearly didn't do. It's just that I can't figure out what it is.

Just trying to think outside of the box; is it possible you LOST points somehow. There are certain actions that cause you to lose points (i.e., kill the bear). I haven't been able to find any list of where to lose points (I haven't looked hard either), but I'm working on it for a "low score" run.

Of course, without a list, that'll make it difficult to find out.
Oh hey, we talked about the low score run on Youtube! :D

I'm pretty sure I didn't lose points - the only one I possibly would've done was getting drunk at the bar, but I didn't do it because I wanted to take a lot of money into the second game (not that I ended up doing that because I forgot how much the VGA version adds to your export gold, so I ended up with far less than I wanted to thanks to the EGA version)

Either way, I've kind given up now. Some day I'll do another runthrough and get 500 points with a Thief. I just don't feel like faffing about with the saves.

You can lose points by attacking the fox and by using the sword to destroy the Spirea flowers and get the seed. In the latter case, you cannot beat the game if you do so. I don't know of any other ways to lose points.
