For those who have finished his quest, how did you do it? He has so many lines of dialogue - and I'm pretty sure I covered everything (not 100% sure though) - that I'm lost on how to advance and finish his annoying quest.
SPOILER AHEAD

I had one vision so far, had new dialogue about him being part of the Godhammer creation, and used those new dialogue options.

He tells me he'll talk more after resting.

Question is, can you just keep resting with him until you get the quest over with? I don't want to use up and keep getting camping supplies if that isn't the trigger for it.

OR, do you have to travel around with him, spend game time with him or be at a particular place? He had some spontaneous dialogue when I beat the Silent dragon in the cave for the firestarter woman quest and found a piece of the godhammer.

I know I need another vision to advance the quest. How do I get it?

I don't like him very much and would rather have a different companion in his place .......

Thanks

I'm fairly sure patch notes for version 1.4 mention fixing of trigger of second step of Durance's quest. Soo... I'd say it's a bug.
Dammit.

Well, does anyone know the specific dialogue option that is supposed to trigger the next vision after resting? At least that way I could know if mine is bugged or not.
SPOILER:

Update on this:

I've searched the web far and wide and found that the bug relates to after having the first vision and not having the dialogue options to talk about it.

Well, I did have those dialogue options, and used them. I;m just trying to initiate the 2nd vision, which should allow me the new dialogue options to finish his quest.

I found in a different forum that someone mentions to do the "god appeasement" quests with him to trigger it (I don't know of these quests yet). I am not sure if this is correct, but at least I now have something to go on.

If anyone here can confirm this I would be grateful.

Anyways, I'm posting my findings just in case anyone else is having problems with Durance like I am.
Copy the files from this thread into your companions folder and it should work fine.

They are from the developer and totally safe. Enjoy. ;)

I did find that already though, and replaced the files (backed up the origs). I read the whole thread as well, and it seems that fix is only for not being able to trigger the first vision (I believe there are 2). Also, those files didn't change anything regarding Durance for me because ...

I did get the first vision, talked to him about it, and my journal is at "Get to know Durance better" (or something similar). I've camped so many times since then, talking to him each time, it's ridiculous. I'm almost certain I've used every dialogue option, but it's hard to tell, there are so many branches to it. Weirdly, some (3 I think?) of the main topics when you start convo are not greyed out like the rest (to me, indicating there are unsaid things under those topics), but once chosen, every sub-topic is greyed out.

I don't get it. Maybe I have to experience a certain scripted game event with him now at the "Get to know Durance better" stage before it triggers the next vision?

Normally I don't mind dialogue quests for xp, but my god there are more pages in his convo tree than in a Stephen King novel.

At this point, it's gotta either be bugged (though I am past the part that's bugged according to that link), or there is a certain event that is the final piece to trigger the dream that I haven't reached yet.

I'm so close to giving up on Durance's quest, as much as I hate the feeling of unfinished quests.

Oh. Sorry. I misunderstood where you were stuck.

It might not be a bug. I get the feeling that Durance's quest is triggered by reaching a certain amount of experience and not by his time spent in the party. It's either that or some in game event or location triggers his dialogue. I believe we are meant to have him in our party through the entire game if we want to uncover his entire story. He is definitely somehow connected to the Hollowborn problem.

What level are you currently?
My party is at level 8, though Durance is still at 7 I believe.

I read that the quest triggers at lvl 6 (1st vision), lvl 9 (2nd vision), and then some event at a prayer event or something. But, there was conflicting info in that thread so I'm not positive if that info is correct.

It triggered for me on level six for the first vision. I'm level seven right now, so we'll see about that level threshold for the second vision.
Finished it! after talking about hist staff, I had to talk to him about himself and ask certain things from the lower lines of dialogue. I kept thinking " if the dialogue option is greyed out, it must be because I already said everything I could about that ", but it turned out this wasn't true. I searched through all of them and found out greyed options lead me to "white new" ones which I never saw, so they must have popped up after dreams or something and I didn't look for them.
So, all in all, keep going through every line of dialogue from the main tree - there are like 7 o 8 lines after you say "I want to speak with you". Check them all, even if you think you said everything, aaaand I know Durance is a bother to talk with because after questioning him for a while he just says something like "let's speak later after sleeping" or something, but oh well.
If I did it, you can do it too!
From the lower dialogue options after the initial "we need to talk" line?

Do you remember what line? I can only imagine it being the "Tell me more about the Godhammer" or "So you built the Godhammer?" lines ...... but I'm pretty sure I've exhausted all the dialogue choices afterwards ....

Heh, it was a 5 hs run to get to the final battle and then left it there, so that's why I couldn't be perfectly accurate when explaining which talk I chose. But I remember speaking to him about the goddess, I think I had tops 1 unused line there. Then about the hammer, another one there, and then about himself. I was in a point where I could tell him "your goddess bretayed you" or something like that, but he demanded more explaining to accept that, so I had to talk about him and hsi staff and so on, which I did by choosing lines that were 6 or 7 or 8 from the main dialog tree. Once I finished every line there, I tried to argue about the goddess actions again and voila! I had 2 new things to say which convinced him and then > quest ended.
Sorry I can't be more accurate, as I sad it was a long run and this talking with Durance was right at the begining of it.

Did you get 2 visions with him after a rest? I got one vision, and I remember having the talk about Magran betraying him (there were other options in that tree, like "maybe silence is the reason" or something, but I didn't choose it and I can't get that dialogue tree back...), talked to him a million times about his staff and the blurred image of him from the first vision, but your last point about being able to argue about Magran's actions again hasn't shown up.

What level are you? I'm wondering if Durance has to be level 9 to get those final dialogue options, like I read at the obsidian forums .... he's almost at 9.
I was level 11-12 so if there was such a requirement I couldn't really say :(.
UPDATE:

I just got the 2nd dream. Automatically started a convo with Durance. Top dialogue option was new, to speak about what I witnessed in the dream. Led to a new talk about the symbols lit on his staff, and his god, convincing him was no good, not many options and definitely wasn't supposed to finish the quest here. Got the next stage of quest - "Continue travelling with Durance".

The 2nd vision triggered very shortly into act 3, while camping in Elmwood, with Durance at ~35,335xp (36,000 is level 9). The rest of my party has been at level 9 for awhile and is 3/4 of the way to level 10.

So, now having the above info, I'd say the 2nd dream and next step of Durance's quest gets triggered either by his character reaching 35000xp, or more likely camping once in Act 3 (it triggered somewhere after I'd already camped 3 to 5 times).

CORRECTION: The area is Elmshore - not Elmwood
