Trying to change hair, skin or tattoo colors during the customization part of character creation will result in a grayish black color whatever I chose...any suggestions?

Same problem here. Clothing renders fine but the player skin is corrupt and "shiny" when in-game.

EDIT: Apparently this is a bug with the game not copying texture files properly upon installation. The solution appears to be to copy the file manually from the CD, but of course we can't do that. See here for details: http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=454730&forum=49

EDIT 2: After some more reading, I found that BioWare addressed the problem by releasing the missing textures in a separate installer. You can download it here: http://supportfiles.bioware.com/nwn/NWN-MissingXP2TtexturesBif.exe

EDIT 3: The above fix did not work for me. Still trying to figure things out. Disabling Environment Mapping in Video/Advanced Options will get rid of the metallic effect, but textures are still missing.

Happen to have the same problem, a quick search of that thread you linked implies that other texture files can be the wrong size. It also mentions forcing S3TC Texture compression, though i can't figure out how to do that on my card.
Have you guys made sure if on win7/vista you install and run the game with administrator rights if installing to the defualt folder?

Yeah that was my first thought. No dice sadly.

I had a look at my xp2_textures.bif file and it seems to be the right size. I'm currently downloading the community pack. Hopefully that'll work.

Well. Was same problem here. Just forced Anisatropic Filtration in Catalist Control Center to x16 and set "Enveiromental mapping on creatures" to off.
But actually that solve only showing a clothes/armor of PC. Skin still metallic.

I tried fiddling with various anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, and game settings, but nothing helped. Neither did downloading the Community Expansion Pack.
It might help if we knew the exact size all the texture files were supposed to be, I dont know if anyone who has the game working could run them off. My install folder is about 110 mb short of what the installer predicted. Might be nothing though.
Similar issue, metallic skin.
Having the same issue here.
Anyone know what file size

textures_01.bif should be? I only have it as 60megs and I think that is suspicious. The other texture files seem the right size.

It's 61.575KB with my DVD version of NWN Platinum...
Confirming for the nth time, though I have a slightly different bug happen when I turn on Env. mapping on creatures: all creatures suddenly disappear. Entirely. I can still mouse over them, and see the glow effect, but the models simply do not appear.

With Env. mapping OFF, I have a greyish blue color appear whenever I try to change skin or hair colors.

Got the Bioware fix downloading. gonna see if that fixes anything.

Grr, so what else could it be? Did the opengl fix, other texture named files seem right size...

Is it some other file?

Is there any fan-made texture pack that can replace this?
