In the perfect world, Nightdive would be remastering it, but alas let's not jump to conclusions just yet.

I did notice that. It seems curious though, why take the page down? I mean, I would assume that if Nightdive or another studio were remastering then it wouldn't be a free replacement but a separate purchase. And if its "just" being updated for modern consoles, again, why take it down in lieu of just rolling the patch out when ready? Something to watch for sure.

It is indeed quite odd, no announcement or anything. I'm assuming it'll be a free upgrade for previous owners, since it's on the same page and everything.
Nightdive or not, I hope it's in the right hands! I'm cautiously optimistic. Patience is a sharp razor to swallow, hopefully the wait will be worth it.

Forget about remaster. gog will release soon (and SE will release the same on the Steam) their product ("SR1 Degradated Edition" - in comparison with my own "Enhanced Edition") that was created at the March of this year (which I tested and uploaded the video of which).

Time lag in 6 month is just due to bureaucracy: gog has contract with Square Enix by which any new game (modified by gog) will be released on the Steam only ~6 months after release of it on gog (just because gog can't compete fairly with Steam). SR1 and other two games of SE were modified at the March and were removed from Steam (after finishing modifications for them) just for that to follow the conditions of this contract. And now - when these conditions were fullfilled - gog also removed at least SR1 from their site for that to upload their modified version several weeks later. ːsteamfacepalmː

P.S.: but due to the "cleverity" of the LOK fans that now write enthusiastic cheers into the address of gog for release of BO1, though they still need to use the Verok's mod for the much better work of the game - i.e. they can't find by themself during many years just one file from the game's distributive of BO1 to complete Verok's mod to the full game (this file is pill.big with the weight of 156 MB) - I am not surprised why gog can do such things.

Just updates - nothing special. With GOG wrappers - nothing special. Same for BO1 - old GOG DX ddraw wrapper, now with DX dinput wrapper as well.
Just minor compatibility improvements with oldest solutions that exist for some games for 5 years.

You rpbably not be able to buy this, im afraid that you do right that afraid you cant by it anymore. GOG sell it for much more tha half-year after removing from Steam, and now it full year after initial removing.

Im afraid there is no legal way to play it nowadays.

The legal way to buy SR1 is to buy this game on the official Square Enix site (Steam key).
This way was available from 2012 and it is still available now.

Moreover, due to the last events - when Square Enix hided buttons for sales of all their games for Russia (excepting 3 games which were locked one year ago including Soul Reaver) at 17 March (and started sales of their games at 17-24 March) and - after some time - locked their games instead of just hiding buttons for sales of their games (i.e. people from Russia see now just the string "this game is unavailable for your region") and started the second round of sales of their games at 24-28 March, - I think that they did this by the request of gog before release of updates of SE games (including SR1). I.e., as I understand, you will see very soon your "remaster" of SR1 - "SR1 Degradated Edition" which was described by myself above and which was created by gog one year ago (with the same bad quality of video and additional critical bugs which were introduced by f***ing thieves with bad hands = gog).

P.S.: Verok's great mod for BO1 is not available now. As I understand, it is his own sanctions against all fans of LOK (he is from Ukraine). While my mod for SR1 ("Enhanced Edition") is still available for ALL fans of LOK both on the Steam and gog. We - russians - are not at war with ANY gamers.

Пиес, дудь! Твой или Верока враппер-моды всегда можно поставить. Был бы релиз игры. Не надо требовать большой работы от разрабов и сервисов - иначе возможность фиксить это такими вот фан-патчами пропадет, а заставить работать реально на всем невозможно. Тем более когда производители и железа и OS нацелены истребить ПК как платформу.
Иначе не будет вообще никаких Good Old Games магазинов.

Да и просто все фиксы совместимости должны быть опционально подключаемыми. 100500 фиксов и модов не нужны - чистая игра должна быть максимально вомзожно чистой и оригинальной.

Что за хрень ты несёшь? Для 4-х игр LOK существует всего по одному решению на каждую игру (одно и то же для BO2 и SR2, представляющее собой стандартный wrapper). Плюс к этому для SR1 есть мой мод, который либо воссоздаёт функции с PS версии, которые были убиты при портировании этой игры на ПК криворукими программистами Кристаллов, либо добавляет хотелки фанов (как опциональные вещи, которые можно врубить или вырубить). Лживые воры с кривыми руками (gog) не только не смогли или не захотели сделать что-то похожее, но даже отказались использовать предоставленный им исходный код, а также интегрировать в официальный дистрибутив игры все существующие официальные и неофициальные локализации. Как были гнидами, так и остались ими.

P.S.: касаемо кучи конфигураций - всё это левая отмазка. С моим модом у народа всё прекрасно пашет на любом компе с любой ОС (начиная с Windows-8). Если у кого-то есть какие-то проблемы, я всегда могу найти их причину и - если нужно - улучшить свой мод (было тут недавно в моей теме на Steam). В отличие от пидарасов с gog, которые обещают поддержку 24/7 только на словах (нагло врут, как обычно), ни черта не делая в реальности на протяжении десятилетий, хотя именно они должны были решить все проблемы с работой игр LOK на новейших ОС еще в 2012. А вместо этого они умудрились продать Square Enix фан-патч (я про SR1), который был размещён на официальном форуме этих долбодятлов (Square Enix) еще за 4 года до релиза игр LOK на gog и Steam, причём забыв выпилить третий логотип с данными владельца патча, и заодно добавив в дистрибутив игры багованную atiumdag.dll, вызывающую проблемы с текстурами на видео-картах Radeon. Вот я и говорю - гниды.

В итоге ты жалуешься что GOG берут решения из сети, жалуешься что не берут и у тебя ничего не работает без фиксов. И это вот самое главное, почему тебя всерьез воспринимать уже давно не получается. Вот что тебе в голову вдарило...

А я сижу и играю в играю в эти игры. И все у меня работает. Захочу поставить мод - всегда могу и поставить, и убрать обратно. Получая 2в1 по своему желанию.
Фиксы на BO2\SR2 мне не нужны - или потому что сижу на Win7 x64 Sp1, или потому что FPS ограничен до 60.

Если послушать всяких васянов - эти игры у меня отберут "чтобы сделать лучше" и дадут уже что-то другое взамен.

Как я вижу, полная клиника. Придумал себе отмазку про ванилу и вроде как устраивает.

Я за полностью работоспособные версии с максимально возможным (опциональным) функционалом, чего нет и не было на gog, потому что они - криворукие недокодеры, делающие всё на отвались (ну или просто тырящие всё, что плохо лежит). Нравится питаться отбросами - ну и жри дальше это гумно.
