Hi there,

[A] Goal: I'd like full screen display (stretched) of HOMM III Complete on Windows 8 x64 Pro

Details: on Windows 7 x64 Pro, without any configuration, the game would stretch to full screen upon launch. Now that my machine has been "upgraded" to Windows 8 x64 Pro, the game will launch in the middle of the screen that is surrounded by a large black area.

[C] Things I have tried:
----- (1) Change compatibility settings to Windows 7, Windows XP Service Pack 3
----- (2) Change to Reduced color mode: 16-bit (65536) color
----- (3) Combination of (1) and (2)
----- (4) Press F4
----- (5) Apply the 32 bit patch (https://sites.google.com/site/sergroj/wog#TOC-32BitPatch)

None of these or any combination there of produces what I want (again, stretched full screen). Then, I have found something else that *almost* works:

----- (6) HD mode (http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=33708)

Setting the resolution at 800 x 600 fills the screen but keeping the aspect ratio so I still get black bars on both sides. Admittedly, setting the resolution at 1280 x 720 is quite playable but the town and combat screens (being at 800 x 600) don't fill the screen.

So has anyone figured out how to have *stretched* full screen of HOMM III on Windows 8 x64?

[D] Relevent specs:
----- OS : Windows 8 x64 Pro (updates as of December 8, 2012)
----- RAM : 16GB
----- Display: 120 Hz 1980 x 1080 display
----- GPU : nVidia GTX 570 (driver as of December 8, 2012)

Heh your doing it wrong :D

Two things

Nvidia Control Panel --> Adjust desktop size and position --> under scaling click Full-Screen --> Apply

and/or

Push buttons on your monitor to find a scaling menu and set it to full-screen.

Thank you so much! That exactly solved my issue.
Hello,

I want just the opposite- to disable "stretched mode" in full screen. How can I do that?

"Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" does not help.

(Windows 8 x64, Nvidia).

Thanks in advance.

Nvidia Control Panel --> Adjust desktop size and position --> under scaling click Maintain Aspect Ratio --> Apply

(Also, make sure Perform Scaling On is set to GPU)

I've got my laptop hooked up to my TV. I have something called Nvidia GeForce 820M but if I enter the Nvidia Control Panel all I got there is some 3d stuff.

So basically i have the same issue as guy 1 and 2. I've got a 1920 resolution on my 55" screen but when I start heroes I get just a small window in the middle of the screen. Any suggestions when I don't seem to have those Adjust desktop size settings in my Nvidia settings?

Try the HD mod:

You can also use GL Wrapper which does exactly what you need and is compatible with all Heroes games. As for Heroes 3 you can use HD mod as well.
