JakobFel: I don't know how I missed this thread for over a month but I just wanted to say that you don't know how refreshing it is to see CONSTRUCTIVE criticism for once, instead of the constant hate and whining. As a huge fan of GOG, GOG Galaxy and CD Projekt overall, it's so frustrating to see constant hate for this platform despite the fact that it's doing what no other platform is doing, and that is creating a bright future for digital gaming.

Thank you for being an adult and expressing your criticism in a constructive, mature manner.

obliviondoll: Given our past disagreements in other topics, I'm grateful to see a positive reaction from you on this! It means a lot to me.
Agreed, this is the sort of feedback I have zero issue with. I just don't like when people are overtly negative toward 2.0 and just act as though it's the coming of the Antichrist instead of voicing constructive feedback for GOG to work with.
In related news, I've had my feedback passed on by support to the relevant people now, so... here's hoping. Just gotta wait and see what happens and when at this point.

BlackSun: Word!

v2.0 BETA is an OCD's absolute nightmare. I just can't.
But even worse, I've seen people post here, explaining how they literally can't, because their color blindness literally renders important parts of the UI pretty much invisible to them.

Signal boosted in my topic.

If you, dear reader, want to prevent the update from ever occurring, or roll back after it got you - here's a dedicated topic to explain how to do that (shameful self-plug):

HOW TO Keep Galaxy v1.2 client and avoid the forced v2.0 BETA update
Thanks for this. I've been going nuts with 2.0. I haven't been able to play my GOG games through it since it was forced upon me because it just sits there frozen and unusable for days on end and consuming 25% CPU. I guess it's trying to import my games from Steam despite not having my accounts connected, but it can't handle it. If I try to connect my Steam account it locks up at "Importing - 32%".

I've reported this issue to them multiple times over the past year or so and nothing's changed. 2.0 is bad for so many reasons, but for me it's just non-responsive and completely non-functional.

Beta software should not be forced on us like this.

First time trying to start gog galaxy after it was updated to 2.0 and it DOESN'T WORK! Just hangs and crashes or I have to force quit it.
Now I'm searching how to install the previous version, and it seems even if I do that I have to run through all these hoops to stop it from mandatory updating to 2.0!

WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!!?!?

Go through all this crap deleting stuff, making backups, changing settings, disabling auto starts, then having to import my games manually one by one.

I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SPEND HOURS FIXING SHIT TO PLAY MY GAMES BECAUSE OF AN UPDATE THAT I CAN'T EVEN REFUSE!

GOG, you started this crap, now fix it. I want a one-click solution, maybe a new exe that will install the old galaxy without updating and import all my games for me.
So I put in a support ticket for the buggy version 2.0 that simply does not even start on my laptop. Got automated responses in return that give no answers. Today this happened and I sent this reply to the ticket. (in the email the swearing at the end was not censored)

-------
So to add to this disaster story... I had to reinstall an older version of gog galaxy, so I did, the latest version before 2.0. Had to reimport a bunch of games. One of my dosbox games, Master of Magic would not import no matter what I tried, so I had to reinstall that one. Started playing a new game there, spent about 3 hours playing it, made some saves. Then I just got through a really tough few turns in the game, barely surviving relentless attacks. I was going to save the progress because it was a miracle I survived, but suddenly the game disappeared. No error or crash messages, it just disappeared and what do I see? The nagging message from gog galaxy asking me if I want to update to version 2 now or later!!!!
So it's bad enough I had to put in a ticket to complain that version 2 wasn't working, but now the forced upgrade nag message has caused my game to crash, right before I was about to do a crucial save!
F*ck you guys. FIX THIS! It's been months of people complaining that this shit is beta-level quality with a huge host of problems and you guys are still trying to force this crap on us! STOP IT!

Did you follow all the instructions in the OP there? Or just get the old client install and have it still able to update? Because if you actually do the full process it shouldn't kick you out of games, but it'll end up with a blue bar along the bottom of the client window sometime after you start up (sometimes a while, sometimes instant).

I did after the crash. I deleted the "updater" exe and all the other stuff, so hopefully it never happens again.
We shouldn't have to be messing around with an official install deleting various parts just to keep our games working. Microsoft forcing upgrades that break every version of Windows is one of the reasons why everyone hates Microsoft. I don't see what they're trying to accomplish by doing things the same way. ESPECIALLY when the new version has been proven and shown to have issues. It's inexcusable and GOG deserves every bit of scorn they get for this.

EDIT: in the time it took me to write this message, I went back to galaxy and I found this (screenshot attached, why can't this forum accept PNG screenshots, the default windows format? annoying!)
So it's still interrupting and asking for updates after I followed the OP instructions and deleted all that stuff.

Easiest way to stop it from updateing is just block \ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Redists\GlalaxyUpdater.exe from haveing acess to the internet with a firewall. All I ever get is galxay was unable to update please update manually.

I come back the the forum to see how much if any it has improved but in all honesty until it is out of beta I don't think I'll update if at all. I would like to see the cross platform work its just a pain today with exclusives and multipal launchers but for the amount of free time I get to game anymore I'm not beta testing something that can give stability or other issues when I have time to unplug for a bit.

If they needed more real world testing I'm sure if they had asked alot more people would have volunteered to use it but the way they went about it didn't jive with me. Still one of the few I respect for having drm free stuff on the market and why I check gog for releases but no opt out is infuriating to say the least.
I went through the steps again, and perhaps I missed something the first time, but it looks like it's working now without giving me any update hassles.
I too plan on sticking with this version.

Whatever happened, I'm glad to hear you've managed to fix it now.

And I agree with Thurasiz that there should be an opt out for Galaxy 2.0 - and it should be the opt out of beta option we already have, which for some reason doesn't opt us out of the Galaxy 2.0 beta.
Thanks so much for putting this together, obliviondoll.

I really appreciate the high road you took and how you kept your tone civil and encouraging. As disappointed as I am, it's hard to do - but I really appreciate it when people try. If I can add some thoughts I didn't see browsing through the thread...

* Social integration isn't bad for people who like that sort of thing! But most of my friends use discord or other social media I have no interest in for their social fix. I don't know anyone, even my most extroverted pals, who use Steam or Galaxy for their main media squeezes. I feel like the ability to - chop out all community elements and be completely private would be nice for those of us who dislike such things.

* I can't see anything in terms/services, but please let us know how the new service works, and what's changed about the telemetry. The reality is that it seems clunkier, and though I'll admit I tend to think that privacy is dead and it's useless to care, I'd still like to avoid broadcasting as much data as possible.

* Could GoG please, in simple language, tell us what has changed about telemetry? I'd also like - if we're paying for something that's going to be sending data in, we're paying twice. I feel like there should be a right to repair movement but for getting payback for unconsented telemetry.

* Without re-stating prior UI concerns, the fact that it undoes everything Gog 1.2 did is - basically why I've been avoiding gog/purchases for so long. Even having rolled back the client, the knowledge that it'll probably be gone soon, without my interest in the upgrade... Why spend money on a service that's just gonna change and probably remove the ability to do what I wanted to do with it? I doubt there are enough people that care for it to matter to the bottom line, but - I hope they might consider that, especially as I was trying to make all my purchases through GoG before this.

One last thing, thanks again to you for putting this together, and whatever juniour staff are probably reading this. It sucks being asked to wade through consumer complaints, but at the same time - I just can't claim anything about this is what I wanted.

*Edited; I'd originally wrote low-level people, but as Old_Dragon pointed out, that sounds... Fixed, I should hope!

Low-level people?

Old_Dragon: Low-level people?
Temps, interns... Not sure if there's a better term for it? Usually, when these sorts of statements are made via the community, it's my experience that the first person to read them - often the only people - are already overworked as it is.

I have to agree, and thank you to ANYONE working in GOG who reads this, for taking the time to do so.

And thank you sludgefriend for the kind words and additions to the discussion :)

As noted, my personal support ticket with the listed comments (both the OP and the later comment I added) has since been closed, with confirmation of being passed on to the appropriate people. I'm not expecting much to come out of it, but I am hopeful.

Ah, I get your meaning now. Junior staff may be a better term. Low-level people sounded like an insult.
