KneeTheCap: Oh yeah, and the game goes on even when you're not playing it. Do try to keep the base stocked up if you are going to not play for a while :)
This is the main thing that concerns me. I'd rather they didn't do this, so that if you do go and play something else for a while and then come back to this game at a later date, you aren't suddenly finding that your base, supplies and some of your survivors are gone.
I'm having an absolute blast with it, REALLY enjoying it, well worth my $20.
As of now, if you have a controller, definitely pick this up.
If you only have KB+M, wait until release.
Hmm, if you didn't know, they seem to be developing a multiplayer game based on the same universe.

"Undead Labs plans to supplement the single-player State of Decay with a massively-multiplayer experience in the same universe, code-named Class 4 (State of Decay was previously known as Class 3). This companion game helped motivate the creation of the robust simulation."

Damit, didn't know this. So, no work or sleep until I've played through the whole game than......

The game is really fun, but this, what a shitty designdesicion. I hope they'll give us a patch that lets us choose not to have this on or a mod perhaps.

Qwertyman: Sounds like people are having fun with it but - seriously, another zombie game?
While there's lots of "zombie games" there actually aren't that many full blown hardcore zombie survival games properly released (there is of course mods like day z but many people won't touch that until it's a standalone game), that's how a game like the war z, even with all the broken gameplay and the controversies caused by it's near-criminal developers managed to sell, it filled a completely empty space.
Play the demo first. That game's problems on XBox 360 had absolutely nothing to do with how pretty it looked.
only a 1.8gb DL....

Unexpected.
well so far so good,

Crashes at launch and visible screen is not aligned, it cuts off part of the right hand side.

Anyone got a link to known issues and workarounds?

Check the Steam Community Hub for the game. Top most thread is Known Issues.

cheers, got it working eventually. It doesnt seem too bad but I was hoping for something a bit more. Hopefully as its development progresses to its full release the issues it currently has will be resolved.

I've not bought it just yet, but I am keeping an eye on it as I do like how it looks and appears to be. I really don't like the idea of it continuing whilst you aren't playing, though.
So I was looking on the steam forums to find the save game location so I can play on my laptop, which I didn't find there. What I did find so was much idiotic whining it was unbelievable and depressing, made me again appreciate this community.

I did find the save game location on my own if anyone was also wondering for moving it to another machine.

Loving this game, runs surprisingly well on my secondary computer (Phenom II X3 720, 3GB Ram, HD5870 @1920x1080) and love the game itself. Can't say I've had much issues either except from enemies clipping through walls now and then. Looking forward to the endless mode they're planning.
Screw it. I'm gonna buy the alpha, if it's not up to snuff I'm gonna send the bill to all of you for pushing me to do this.

What, you mean like the people that wilfully ignored the fact that the game has little KB+M support (a point that has been relentlessly advertised), then proceeded to bitch about it? :P
The SoD EA forums are a gold mine of hilarity and depression (some guy said a game released on Steam, much less PC, without proper KB+M support isn't a true PC game & its sale on Steam is illegal)

LOL, this guy would hang himself if he discovers that "Brothers - A Tale O Two Sons" is also sold on Steam without KB/M support (Due to the original twin-sticks control, this is perfectly normal).

Also, most of the whiners haven't really played the game because you don't use guns that much (due to noise and ammo problems) so no precision and quickness required and most importlantly, you have to drive A LOT and regarding this matter, a x360 pad with the triggers is really a big plus because there are subtleties in the acceleration of a vehicle that you can't get with a "binary" button ( where the acceleration is "on/off"). It's really important in racing games and gta-likes but here it goes into another dimension because the slower you drive, the less noise you make (showed by a circle on your mini-map), so driving constantly at 5km/h makes you more stealthy when driving in the streets.

And to add my two cents on the game for those on the fence: yes, there are some minor issues in this game (lack of explanations on certain matters so check the net to fully grasp the dynamics of ressources, etc) but it's really recommended for those who would like to experience a sandbox group survival game.
