Jack is Life! Jack is Love! The Keaning is happening!

Most sales are just that: some nice deals, tons of games, some flowery marketing talk about those deals. Nothing more, nothing less. As you know, last year we ran our Fall Insomnia Promo with the usual expectations that follow a typical sale.

The Insomnia Promo was different. Very, very different. It morphed into something beyond our wildest expectations. Entire communities were staying awake for this sale. The RPG Codex was busily snapping up and all classic RPGs. 4chan's very own /v/ put aside their usual bickering about which console was best and started trying to find The Pattern (sorry guys, you didn't crack it :^) ). Meanwhile, Jack Keane acquired a cult following (JACK IS LOVE! JACK IS LIFE!) all the while collecting a flurry of 5 star reviews where gamers documented all sorts of miraculous manifestations of Jack's blessing in their lives. Lastly, the Insomnia promo garnered its own entry on our [url=http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/the_return_of_the_insomnia_sale]wishlist.

Welcome to our Spring Insomnia Sale! Back by popular demand*, we will be putting up 100 games in limited quantities** with discounts up to 90%. We'll have more games for sale than Noah had animals in his ark. Indies. Classics. Classic indies, even. All kinds of games for all kinds of gamers. However, you have to be fast, faster than those Polish script kiddies*** lurking outside our offices so they can get 0.1 ms of ping!

We did change things up a bit this year. While checking out, keep an eye peeled for a random chance to get a free game. Yes, this time there will be no more split second freebies so everyone has an equal chance :)

*why would you do this to yourselves, you mad fools?!?!
**yes, we know that all games are being distributed digitally and quantities can be infinite, just roll with it, ok?
***it was a common theory that all the free games were being snatched up by Polish hackers. We don't have any hackers here in Poland, we deported them all...somewhere...
Getting tired of waiting for Krondor and Arcanum. Come on

Better late than never=), being the Star Wars fan that I am that was some very sweet news for me when they said they would go open source. Now I hope to see some really good mods for two really good games=).

Another term (mods) I have never been able to fully comprehend or try to apply on any game ever. How does it work? Is any of it any good or useful or necessary? Where does one go to obtain the best? I only stick to gog patches thus far.

They were pulled by the developers about a week after releasing. From what I read it was some third party code so Raven pulled the plug. I haven't heard of anything new since then.

As far as I can see they are trying to improve the Code, releasing unofficial patches and stuff.

The_Blog: As far as I know Teslagrad is pretty good.
But yeah. Kinda impulse buy for me too ^^
I like the look of it... since I only have 3 currently on my wishlist (and none on this sale)...everything I bought the last few days has been impulse buying... still happy though!

hedwards: Still not buying anything. I really wish GOG would stop these stupid bullshit promos that encourage people to behave like problem gamblers.

tin_penguin: In what way is buying games like gambling?
It's structured based upon an uncertain payout that's vaguely in the future. You've got folks clicking on the free games hoping to win one as a mechanism for keeping them glued on the page for the games they're selling. Then you have the people who are getting very invested in the possibility that the next game will be the one they want, and if it's not, then a lot of folks would wait until the next game shows up.

It's basically the same mechanism that casinos use on patrons to get them to overspend at the tables and I don't respect it. People are free to do as they please, but GOG used to be a lot more ethical about the way they conducted themselves.
Could someone please post the list of what has been sold so far during Round 3. ^_^

Sry, mods means modification and it´s not necessary at all but I do recommend getting some once you played the game (some prefer to play old games without them to get the true "old school" feeling others prefer playing the games with them). There are different kinds of mods, some enhances the actual game others changes the game completely (often called TC as in Total Conversion).

A game like Jedi Knight : Outcast is still very playable without any mod but a game like Dark Forces takes some time to get used to. With a mod, like the one for Dark Forces, it plays much more like modern games.

In short, mods are awesome and most of the time completely free for anyone who owns the game. Red Orchestra started out as a mod and so did Counter Strike.
