Stevezen: Well I bought it and I'm not impressed at all. yes it looks lovely but the aerial combat is very poor. Huns fall to the earth after one burst from my guns, this is ridiculous and in two consecutive missions I shot down a total of 3 aircraft, all downed with a tiny burst of fire and all their tails fell off. I'm sorry but thats just quite ridiculous :(

After playing games on many systems since 1977, Wings remains on of my favourite games ever but I should have listened to my mate, this is quite poor. (no I wasn't playing on easy)

I hope you all enjoy it and get your moneys worth but after playing for under 10 mins I've uninstalled it and deleted the file. I'll stick to the original.
I know what you mean. I'm not saying that the Remasterd Version of Wings is already perfect (it is not).
But if you play the hard mode you wil get a diffculry level near to the one from the Amiga Wings.

Cinemaware will improve the game. And for this they need feedback from all players. And they need money to go on.
They already did an amazing job with VERY limited ressources.
Play the hard mode, you will like it MUCH better than the mode you have turned on in your first 10 minutes.

Was the original Amiga version difficult or hard?
Unless my memory fails me, the only things that caused big problems were stalling the plane during fights or crashing to the ground (either by pilot error or plane damage).

Admittedly, I don't think I ever played it far/well enough to actually finish the game, but I don't remember it being at all difficult game.

Of course, I haven't played it for many many years, and haven't had time to try the remake, so I can be totally wrong about this. But how difficult can the game be, if the controls are digital joystick directions and a fire button?

Which leads to the follow-up question... how does the remake and the plane handling work with analogue joystick controls? Analogue joystick controls could make the game much easier, as you can (at least in theory) control the plane much more precisely.
The Amiga version was hard if you had a green pilot in a later mission (with better and more german planes arround).

The Remastered Version is to easy (IN DOGFIGHT MISSIONS) if you play on medium level. At least in verions 1.0 (i'm pretty sure that we will see sooner or later some patched to improve balancing, and maybe even the AI.

Already in planing is an Add-on with a german campaign. This add-on will improve the main game too.

It is great to play the dogifight and bombing missions with the analog joystick. Strafing works rather bad with the slow reaction of an analog joystick. For the the old Competition pro digital joystick would work best, or the mouse..

The Analog joystick isn't the reason why wings on easy and mediuam isn't very challenging in the dogfight missions.
It is mostrly because right now the enemy planes always have first to fly in range of your plane, from far away. And because your need less hits to shot them down.

On hard mode it is more difficult to hit a plane. This helps, just like the fact that the enemy plane hit you better or your plane is more feeble than during easy / medium. Not sure what it is. But it is definetely more fun to play dogfights on hard morde. Because it helps you to fear and respect the enemy (what is not so very true during easy / medium).
I loved playing the original on my father's Amiga. Once it drops down to a reasonable price, I'll probably pick up a copy of the remake- assuming that I don't get it in one of the gift exchanges I partake in this year.
Have to admit, im not the biggest fan of WWI type games, but the trailer (has actual gameplay too!!) and graphics look awesome on this release etc :). Might actually get this either now or wishlist..:)

WOW!!! I didn't expect it to release so soon - I still remember their Kickstarter campaign (after Project Eterenity). I love WWI planes and games set in that era - especially History Line 1914-18 (awesome strategy with very simple interface - here on gog), Knights of the Sky (by Microprose - not on gog yet...) and Wings on Amiga. The game was so cool - it was a mixture of arcade shooter, action game (bombing factories and targets) and flight simulator (dogfights). The game was hard in many missions - not just in Bloody April '17.... Too bad I hear that many players are complaining that game is way too easy. It shouldn't be a casual game! I did over a hundred missions in original and there was quite more missions to go. I hope that in the patch difficulty will be improved so I can buy this game and enjoy it. Great idea of Cinemaware to go back to their best games and remake them for new PCs! And I'm very happy that it is in GOG's catalog!
Cool looking game!
I remember playing this back in the day, liked it a lot. Particularly how your pilot got progressively better at flying, something you really noticed if you went back to a rookie pilot.

Hope they can capture that feeling again :)

Lodium: Better than being like steam and not offer anything but i agree that regional prices sucks and almost never works as intended.
Havent seen a single store doing regional pricing as it shoud be.
Mmm, but I don't remember Steam having flat pricing and if they did they certainly never advertised it prominently as a feature. GOG on the other hand...
Never heard of it, but looks really good. I´ll wait for some reviews to confirm my impulse.

They used to not have regional pricing, but then that changed. Kinda like GOG ;)

There's still a massive thread hanging around SPUF complaining about the change I think. Sadly not something GOG could keep fighting against it seems.

Instant buy for me, despite me spending too much this month already.

This is one of my all time Amiga favourites, spent so many hours playing it. Am so happy about it, it's enough for me to stop lurking on the forums and start posting! Thanks GOG and Cinemaware!

SirPrimalform: Screw you Cinemaware, more than a 25% increase in price just because I live in the UK?
Hello,

Please understand that regional pricing is not a policy of Cinemaware nor is it under our control.
We hope you still consider checking out Wings!

ecamber: No original version? Then I won't buy it. I'm tired of seeing "remastered" versions of classics that suck all the joy out of the original experience. It seems that these days, "remastered" means "we took away the awesome pixel art and replaced it with lame HD drawings or renderings".

A proper remastered version should have kept the original art, but increased the resolution and framerate of the 3d rendering, added music and additional levels, and made it run flawlessly on today's PCs. But I guess that would look too "dated" so they took this approach.

Thanks for the good stuff earlier in the week.
Hello!

Please keep in mind that you can in fact play the game with the original soundtrack turned on...and the original Wings for Amiga will in fact be released on GOG soon. Backers of the crowdfunding campaign get it for free...
We hope you consider checking out the game, we are glad to see that many gamers are enjoying it!

Cinemaware: Of course, when helping crowdfund a project we hope a fan is doing more than just "purchasing a product" - that is not the intent or spirit of crowdfunding. It's all about helping realize a dream and bring a project to market that can then reach many, many more people - which then in turns helps more Cinemaware projects materialize.

PixelBoy: This is true, and I am happy to have helped Wings! to reborn.

But then there is also the fact that there are some backer expectations, many of which are based on "de-facto" procedures these days.

I don't think anyone is upset about the game or about backing the game, but from what I have seen on different forums, Wings! backers are more or less disappointed for not having any way to redeem the game on existing game stores. You have said that only DRM-free version was promised, and also delivered, but the common procedure is to offer keys to some digital store.

I have personally backed 54 successful Kickstarter projects (and Broken Age twice, outside of Kickstarter), and of these games Wings! is so far the only one that doesn't offer any keys to Steam/GOG/Humble.

And as most backers are paying more than what the average store price is, it seems kind of crazy that they have the most inconvenient way of getting the game.

It may seem like a minor thing from your point of view, as the game is the same anyways, but from the backer point of view it's different. For instance, I would have to have 54 different username/passwords combinations and 54 different URLs to get all my backed games. Whereas the alternative is to have only a few services (Steam/GOG/Humble) where I could redeem the games and have in the same shelf with other games.

I hope this will help to understand why many backers are so badly wanting to get the keys.
As we have been stating every time this is asked of us: we will work very hard at getting keys to all backers, although it was never promised nor is there a guarantee we will be able to do it. We rather be honest with our backers than promise things we may not be able to deliver.

In addition, we hope that backers and fans notice that we ended up adding quite a good amount of extra content that was not originally planned (or reached under stretch goals), such as 5 extra missions, a new funeral scene, a new alternate ending scene, voice-over, full localized text (6 languages!) and many other details. We made this out of passion for Wings! and out of consideration for all backers that supported us. Being judged on the lack of Steam (or GOG) keys seems to overlook a lot of what we were able to achieve with our crowdfunding campaign. As for pricing, backers are getting several items not available anywhere else (free copy of Wings Amiga, soundtrack, credits inside the game, etc.) and therefore a straight pricing comparison seems unfair.

Regardless, we deeply thank your support and hope you will continue to stand by Cinemaware!

Hello!

Please keep in mind that in addition to the HARD mode, the game does get progressively more difficult over the course of the missions - and there are over 230 of them! It's likely you have only played the early missions, which do not represent the long-term difficulty of reaching the end of the game. We made it so that at least most players can reach a point further into the campaign and not be a frustrating experience.

Regardless, we will keep enhancing Wings! and fine-tuning of the missions, difficulty and other features are in our future plans. Maybe a WINGS VETERAN difficulty level for those suicidal enough? :)

Hope you can give the game another try!
