Includes Mind Games and Gold Edition DLCs!

Sword of the Stars: The Pit Gold Edition, the complete edition of the challenging modern Sci-Fi roguelike game that challenges you to explore ancient alien ruins, is available 25% off on GOG.com. That's only $9.74 for the next three days. At the same time, the permanently reduce the price of the game's regular edition to $6.99.

Are you prepared for the Pit? If you think you are, scout, you've already failed and our world is doomed. I want you to really understand this: you are not prepared. Nothing in the world could have prepared you. No amount of training, not even years of experience, nothing. So if you're feeling confident, that you can go to the Feldspar Mountains, scavenge the ancient Suul'ka complex, steal their secrets, and return with the cure for the Ghoul Plague--we're dead. Our only hope lies in your ability to doubt yourself, second-guess your own judgment, and think twice about your every step. This is how dangerous the Pit is. I would know. I've been there. I reached level 3 before my squad was decimated by mutant beasts. So, soldier, I'll ask you one final time, and this time I want you to really think before you give me your answer: are you prepared?

Sword of the Stars: The Pit Gold Edition is a phenomenal turn-based RPG turning the traditional roguelike dungeon exploration, item scumming, and careful planning into a modern gaming experience. The infamous Pit is randomly generated on each playthrough, which--combined with the game's three different character classes--makes up for crazy replayability value. With tons of items to find, many equipment and character modifications, and--most importantly--a vast selection of blood-hungry monsters waiting for your every mistake, this game offers you a Sci-Fi adventure you'll be enjoying for hours and hours. The Mind Games and Gold Edition DLCs included in this premium package, add new layers of gameplay and come with a plethora of improved and added features. (Both DLCs also available separately. The Gold Edition Upgrade DLC costs $2.99 and requires the previous Mind Games DLC to be installed first).

If you like challenging games that first become your passion, then an obsession, and finally an addiction, you need to grab the definitive package of roguelike goodness, Sword of the Stars: The Pit Gold Edition, right now, for only $9.74 on GOG.com! The 25% discount offer lasts until Monday, November 11, at 14:59PM GMT.
I am confused: if I already own the original version without the DLC, what is my upgrade path? Do I purchase DLC separately? We need an upgrade path that is clearly defined.
About extras: Would you like a Wallpaper!
It is impossible, I can not find a quality image on the internet to build my own wallpaper Sword of the Stars: The Pit

Davane: There seems a great deal of confusion and annoyance here, and justifiably so.

I purchased SotS before the Mind Games DLC came out, and opted not to buy it, because I am opposed to buying DLC, particularly when GotY versions are potentially available.

Now, I am faced with the quandry that I can buy the complete SotS Gold, which includes the base game that I have already paid for, at a discount. Or I can buy the two DLCs I need separately without a discount. What to do?

I am glad that I did not buy Mind Games, simply because I can just about justify buying the complete bundle at a discount, and ignoring the duplication. But what about those people who so loyally bought the Mind Games DLC when it came out?

If I recall correctly, there was a promo with both SotS and Mind Games at a discount in the past, shortly after Mind Games was released.

C'mon GOG - get it together. Although I commonly buy everything from a promo to quickly (and cheaply) build up my games collections (and to try out some games I wouldn't otherwise buy or play) - at least I get to pick and choose what games in the promo I want, and don't have to pay for what I already own.

For a pioneer in games distribution, why are you resorting to the cheap tactics of having to resell products to people who already own them? It's like the dark old days where you would get the base game bundled with the latest Expansion Pack, even though you already bought it previously.

Given how your promos work, it doesn't seem like any real hardship to set one up that allows people to buy the Mind Games and Gold DLCs at the same discount as someone getting the entire bundle. Time isn't important - I am pretty sure that EVERYONE would prefer to wait for this promo and feel like EVERYONE has gotten the same great deal with this release.

Until such a promo surfaces, I'm going to stick with vanilla SotS, simply because while this is called Gold, it simply isn't Gold behaviour on the part of GOG.com. It's letting down your customes who have already bought any of the SotS series.

We know you can do it - look at how you provided Alien Crossfire with Alpha Centuri. People had already bought the base game. You didn't cheat them by making them pay for Alpha Centuri again just to get Alien Crossfire. Please don't start cheating people now by making them pay for what they already own.

We don't want the alternative to your DRM-Free policy "You buy it, you keep it" being "but we'll make you pay for it again and again!"
Yeah, a dangerous path GOG.

mistermumbles: Even after reading those answers I'm still a bit confused. Right now I have the base game and when looking at the gold upgrade gamecard I noticed this:

So am I correct in assuming I would actually need to buy MindGames and the Gold upgrade then to get the full package?

luizcarlosjuno: If I understand correctly:
- If you own Sots: The Pit + DLC: Mindgames, you can buy the Gold Edition DLC for $ 2.99 (as an upgrade)
- If you own only the Sots: The Pit. You can buy Sots: The Pit Gold Edition because it includes the base game plus DLC Mindgames for $ 9.74 (And so you will have two copies on your profile, Sots: The Pit and the Sots: The Pit Gold Edition).
That's sort of correct :)

If you own only the base game, SOTS: The Pit, then buying the Gold Edition will get you the Mind Games DLC and the Gold Edition upgrade without an extra copy of SOTS: The Pit. However, it's easier and cheaper if you just buy the Mind Games DLC and then the Gold Edition upgrade :)

The Gold Edition (not Upgrade) is meant for those who don't have ANY of the SOTS: The Pit series of games :)

Technically if you already own the base edition of SOTS: The Pit, you can purchase the Mindgames DLC and Gold upgrade for cheaper than the standalone Gold edition so it's not a total loss.

It's good of GOG to allow people to just upgrade from base + Mindgames to Gold, so you're not FORCED to re-purchase content. If I understand Judas correctly the Gold Edition is just a bundle of base + Mindgames + Gold upgrade anyway.

Basically the only thing new here is that you get a additional character/environments/etc for +$2.99 over the previous offerings of base + Mindgames if you are an earlier purchaser.

Hi :)

If you have the original version and nothing else, it's cheaper if you buy the Mind Games DLC and the Gold Edition Upgrade :) As I said earlier, the Gold Edition (not upgrade) is for those completely new to the series :)

I think I finally managed to level up my communication skills :)

Yes, that's exactly what I meant :)

Wait, wait, wait... If you own the base game and buy the Gold Edition (non-upgrade), you won't have the base game in your collection? The Gold Edition will replace the base game on your shelf?

Nope, you'll have the base game still and then you'll have Mind Games and the Gold Edition upgrade but you WON'T have an EXTRA copy of SOTS: The Pit (base game) on your shelf or anything of the sort.

...So if you already own the base game of SOTS: The Pit, the Gold Edition would be paying/wasting an extra ~$2 over the standard cost of the individual Mindgames DLC and gold upgrade for the same content and only benefit those who didn't ever have The Pit.

Correct :)
Holy **** Batman! A ~2GB download for a 2D rogue-like? Wasn't expecting that. Is that an error, or is it really that big? And if so, how is that possible? Does it contain that many different graphics and audio files?

Anyhow, this looks really good ( and by "looks" I mean the visuals as well as the gameplay and amount of content ). Just bought a few games here so I won't get it right away, but I'm definitely interested.

I do have one question for the people who have already played the game: Can this be controlled entirely via mouse input? I'm asking because it seems like it could potentially be fun to play on a tablet, if it doesn't require keyboard input.

The three parts, when put together, are that big, yes.

I played the game using mouse and keyboard and am going to try and see how well it handles with a controller as I've never had the time to play it after all the updates :) I *think* that you can control the game entirely by mouse but I personally have never tried doing so :)
I would imagine it's about now that Judas begins to reconsider his decision to do this rather than joining the priesthood like his mother told him to.

Ah, so it's setup like the combo purchases from a while back (the ones that broke for a couple weeks, Guacamelee and Tales). Buying the Gold (non-upgrade) adds 3 items to your shelf, the base game, the Mindgames DLC, and the Gold upgrade DLC. If you already had the base game, buying the non-upgrade Gold game will add the two DLC's but will not add an additional entry for the base game. It would just be "lost".

Wow! What a confusing mess this is...

I'll say it again. I do not intend to buy any other game in the future that intends to add DLC, not until all of the DLC is fully released.
Maybe this will help clear up the confusion (Judas, feel free to correct me if I've got this wrong).

SOTS TP Gold Edition is not a stand-alone "complete" installer; rather it is a bundle of three separate items:
1. SOTS: The Pit
2. Mindgames DLC
3. Gold Edition DLC

SOTS TP Gold Edition Upgrade is just the new DLC.

So there is no difference between buying the "Gold Edition" bundle and buying each item separately, except for the price - if you have none of the games, it is slightly cheaper to buy the bundle.

Prices (individual items):
1. SOTS: The Pit - $6.99
2. Mindgames DLC - $4.99
3. Gold Edition DLC - $2.99
TOTAL: $14.97

Prices (Gold Edition bundle):
Normal: $12.99
Current discounted price: $9.74

So under normal circumstances, you save $1.98 by buying the bundle vs buying all three separately (more with the current discount). But if you already own one or more items, it's cheaper just to buy the ones you don't have than to re-buy the whole bundle.

It's too bad the DLCs aren't also on sale, but I assume that will happen eventually - so it's just back to being patient for me. :)

Edit: Ninja'd about a dozen times while I was typing this out. :p
