Superfrog is back to save the day!

Superfrog HD, a modern reworking of the 1993 2D platformer with tweaked gameplay, updated level design, and enhanced cartoonish graphics, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the first 72 hours!

You know how the story goes: an unlucky prince is magically turned into a frog by a nasty witch. But here is a twist! Thanks to a mystery potion the frog gets super powers. To rescue his kidnapped princess the amphibious superhero will jump around 24 finely crafted levels, across 6 themed worlds. He'll even defeat challenging bosses along the way. If you thought the amphibian champion might be a bit out of shape after 20 years in retirement--think again! Superfrog HD stays true to the original while updating the mechanics and adding in modern polish to the games visuals.

Help Superfrog save the day in this modern throwback to one of the best classic platformers of the 90s, get Superfrog HD, for only $3.99 on GOG.com, until Sunday, September 14, at 9:59AM GMT.

you'll probably have achievements soon thru gog galaxy
Thanks GOG, that's one game off my steam wishlist, I correctly hoped that one day it would come here ;)
Not bad, but from Team 17 we still need the other Worms games -

(Unfortunately, Armageddon is still $15 on Steam, so I assume that won't be showing up.)

I looked at your avatar, mistook you for the account that makes the news posts, then thought, oh, this must be someone protesting against the colourless logo. Then I realised that the GOG.com Editor account actually does still use the classic logo. I wonder whether that will last.

Fosterinn: I am confused why the owners of the original SuperFrog have to pay to get the newer one? In the past it has always been a free upgrade? Judas can you help us out here by helping us understand the reasoning behind have to pay for the new version if one already owns the original? Thanks.

F4LL0UT: Yeah, I also feel a bit weird about this. When I learned about Superfrog HD soon after buying the DOS version here I was sure that we'd get it as a free update.
+1

But I'm not going to complain, as the console HD release suffered from control issues and scrolling. Hopefully they have been fixed for the PC release here.

We should log gog's logos.
Waiting for reviews! Anyways, I like that we´ve got the possiblity to freely choose between the remake and the original game!

It's called a remake, never understood why people expect a free upgrade. Did the owners of the original Shadow Warrior get the new game as a free update? They didn't, Did the owners of original Rise of the Triad get the new remake as a free update? Neither.

I'm sure you get the picture. People pretend a bit too much if you ask me, the only thing I would have expected with this release is a discount on the classic one as well, Nothing more nothing less.

My only disappointment with this release is that the Mac and Linux versions aren't provided, yet they are present on Steam.

Downloaded the game and played the first two levels and in my opinion it's much better than the original game (which was great when it was released, but didn't age very well).

I tried to play the original Superfrog about a year ago and gave up after a short time, because I constantly died when I ran into enemies that I couldn't avoid or couldn't see before I bumped into them. This doesn't seem to be a problem with the HD version. Game is still fast-paced, but I can see what's going on and use my skills to avoid or destroy enemies.

Gamepad support (I played with a Logitech F510) is also a big plus in my eyes as it always makes platform games easier to control.

The level design isn't the same one as in the original game, but you can unlock the original levels.

The only bad thing I can see is that the game automatically switches to your OS language and there's no ingame setting to switch it back to English.

Since GOG is cool with HD versions sold separately from originals now, does that mean they would be OK now with Avernum remakes?
So now we have Superfrog and Superfrog HD both on GOG in competition with one another. That's an interesting decision. I certainly never thought Superfrog was so brilliant I needed to buy it again.
So did you fix the issue I ran into when I tried to play this on Steam, where if you have certain video cards, the character sprites just don't appear (and I couldn't find a workaround)?
Because that feels like it would be an important thing to fix.

Works for me. They essentially cater to two different markets--people who played these games when they were new, and a somewhat younger crowd of indie retro gamers. Personally, I'm glad they didn't force this new version on me as someone who already owns the old game here.

Austrobogulator: No extra discount for owners of the original?
Was wondering this too. Ah well, the introductory sale is still cheap enough for me to justify owning it again. Though honestly it wasn't all that impressive back on the Amiga, there were many better platformers (James Pond, where are you?).

An old Amigan has to take what s/he can get these days.

Well, I had that issue on an ATI card on my work PC and installing the 13.9 Catalyst drivers fixed that :)
