I've been out all day and just came home to see this release. I'm curious... anyone else here who backed this game on Kickstarter? I was hoping a GOG key would be an option if it were to come here, but it's looking like we only get to choose between Steam and OUYA keys.
Hm, interesting release! Will wishlist for now until some more reviews are in (shame the rating system can no longer be used to actually judge a game as people seem to be downgrading all games that use regional prices. Not a big fan of regional pricing either, but there must be more effective ways of voicing your protest than using the games' rating system).

I agree it is really juvenile to give a low rating to games without even playing them. There is nothing wrong with voicing your opinion against obviously senseless regional pricing but taking it out in the review section does a disservice to the people that are looking for some information on the quality of the game. These days though it is much easier to look at some video reviews on youtube and get an idea on whether the game is for you or not.

True, plus using the rating system for protesting regional pricing is pretty pointless because no one will know that is the exact reason why you downgraded the game. Ah well, maybe people will stop doing it after realising that it's not accomplishing anything except making the rating system totally useless.

And I agree with you on watching review game videos. Except for games like this where immersion is so important, I find that those videos sometimes give away too much in that respect and take away from the experience a bit you would have going in without having seen any of the actual gameplay. I do always check out review videos and/or let's play ones for eg strategy games, makes deciding whether the game is something for you just so much easier. Ah well, have this game wishlisted for now, will decide later about actually getting it or not. :-)

Indeed you're correct that review videos have a tendency to spoil really story driven and immersive games and that is why people still rely on ratings and review scores for those. Even the marketing videos for the games end up showing a lot of stuff from them which would be something that people would have preferred to discover on their own. It is an unfortunate side affect of video review culture prevalent on youtube these days with anyone and everyone able to easily post their opinions on a game.

I backed the game on KS and got a GOG key by asking to Matt by a message on KS. I don't think he will refuse one to you if you ask too. :)
I don't get the one price crowd. Various jurisdictions have different taxes (VAT, sales taxes) that alone can account for up to 29 % difference. People should get angry at their government not at the developers. Also, the same people don't mind if certain jurisdictions get a cut from the US price which is weird, they should be all for the same price.

GOG gives people store credit to make up for the difference, that's not the same as having a lower price but it's a decent substitute. So as I said, don't get why people are so angry.

AlienMind: Soooo.. what's the deal with regional prices? Why did they remove Painkiller and a bunch of other games supposedly because they wanted regional prices, and now they're doing it even for indie releases? Sorry, it now seems that the reason they gave us does not relate to the truth.

fronzelneekburm: Apparently that's because GOG's fair regional pricing policy only covers new(ish) games. Which in practice means that excellent titles that would have sold well for years to come (like "Amnesia: The Dark Descent") have to get pulled from the catalogue while GOG is willing to cover the extra cost to non US$ buyers for regionally priced garbage like "Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs", simply because that one is relatively new.
Thanks for resolving that mystery.

Something like this was what I was hoping to hear. I'll try messaging him. Thanks for the reply! :)
I don't "like" regional pricing either but... does every applicable new release thread really need to be flooded with complaints about pricing instead of talk on game meritt or play? This community is getting entirely too jaded and fixated to be as much fun as it was just recently.
Anybody bought it? I find it really tempting and would love to hear some opionions about the actual game :)

I bought it but it's in my backlog (currently playing Jazzpunk and Tower Of Guns) and the remake of Gabriel Knight is coming on Monday so I'm not playing it before a week or two ^o^. I watched some let's play of the demo released one year ago and it works a little bit like Knock-Knock except that it's more less cryptic :) (and the shaders effects are really cool)

BTW, you can try the demo on the kickstarter page:

I agree... These days I sometime wonder if I did not login on the Blizzard forums instead of the GOG ones. Whatever the news is, it'll go back to the following topics in at least 20 posts: regional pricing, GOG new website design, why movies, why new games... instead of discussing the news content (game or movie merits...).

Sad but I noticed that if you move away from the news threads and stick to the general forums (or the game specific ones) you'll find a lot of smart, fun and pleasant people which still represent the vast majority of the GOG community.

EDIT: and I promise this was my last post on this subject in a news related thread ;)

Certainly posters like Zoidburg are motivating me to care less and less about regional pricing.

(I was going to play this game last night, but instead I played some mediocre RPGMaker thing on Steam. I don't know why. Hopefully I'll have something useful to say about this game by tomorrow.)

Thanks for the headsup, this encouraged me to ask him the same thing. I too backed the game, but haven't redeemed the Steam key yet.
