klaymen: You are European = Rest Of The World.
Valve's order of importance is probably:
U.S. customers > GB customers > monkeys > livestock > rest of the world customers
With the fact that StingingVelvet is American, it seems to be so.

Lone3wolf: You know, *usually* GB/UK gets shafted the most by game/movie/whatever industry by the simple fact on terms of population :
However much Labour Party *want* UK to be in Europe, (probably because of the massive amounts of "grants" they rake in each year), they refuse to give a referendum because they know they'll not only lose it (very few people here want Europe), they'll lose it very heavily.
60-75million people in the UK, and how many will actually be paying customers of a product? Not that many, which is usually why games and movies are released here much later, or not at all, than elsewhere in the world... :(

Dude, try living in Aus or even worse, NEW ZEALAND. We get fucking shafted down here ya know.
Heh you think you get the shaft, live here! Reading words to the effect of "Sorry this content is not available in your region" is becoming the thing I hate the most. Our PSN store is an empty wasteland, our xbox marketplace might as well not have a video section (Likewise for the PSN, in fact it simply won't let you go into the video section). America gets thousands of TV shows & movies, the last time I counted we had just short of 70 non-game vids, most of which was useless music shit that had no real content in it. Now that the mind numbing tedium of "The Guild" is online that number has shot up but I can make a pile of random stuff bigger by simply by dumping garbage on it, doesn't make it better.

Yeah thats a point, New Zealand is way worse, you get much the same content problems but you.ve only got new zealanders to turn to for comfort!

Why do you think I moved back from NZ? :P
I now simply order from USA. It's worth the wait, especially since Zone 1 DVDs mainly have subtitles that the Zone 4 do not have. FUCKING WAN... Sorry. It's just a pet hate I have... I never go to the video shop anymore, it's useless.
Just waiting for my next load of tv series and dvds to arrive from USA then I'll be happy, at least until I order the next load. Heh.

StingingVelvet: As I said before, Steam issued me the TAGES serial key, which means they knew about the DRM before the product went live.
Even if they magically didn't, they should have a policy in place where they have to know within a week of the game going on sale so that the product page is accurate. It's very simple: DRM is put in a notificatio on the Steam page, so a lack of notification insinuates there is no additional DRM. When there is, this is fraud.
Imagine McDonalds has a menu where some items note: "may contain peanuts" for allergy concerns. Wouldn't it make sense to assume the menu items with no notation have no peanuts? If they did, would you sue? Of course.

acare84: You can get refund if you contact to Steam support politely. :)

I already got one. Doesn't mean it wasn't a crappy thing to do on Valve's part.
That sucks. and I get why it's annoying and all.
But here's the thing I don't get. People love steam. There is one small problem. Immediately people hate steam with a passion.
Why is it that people go from evangelising to crying for crucifixion so quickly? Steam has always worked well for me (*tempts fate*), but if something like this happened to me (or if my account was locked for a few days) it wouldn't suddenly make me hate them. It might make me like them a bit less, but it'd take a few such events to make me forget all the good parts.
Several of the games i've bought on GOG have had problems... but at the first compatibility problem i didn't start filling the forums with anti-gog hate. I still like them.
By all means be unhappy and try to get things improved... but remember no one is perfect, and most good things have a few flaws/cons involved too.

StingingVelvet: So, ok, I see the light.
Steam must fall.

Funny - and in the same time pretty sad - to see that a trouble must happen to people to let them understand that Steam is nothing more than crap.
Hey people, let's think before using - and defending - that kind of service.

Not having read the whole thread, i'm glad to hear you got a refund. Does this mean hate -> mild dislike?

My hypothesis is that people like that have a problem and go searching for help while waiting for steam's support to get back to them. They post on a forum or two and suddenly Team SteamSuxLOL jump all over them and regale them with every horror story ever documented, theorised or outright made up (much like DRM really [Queue "Steam IS DRM! comments"]) and by the end of the day the user who was only having minor login problems is a member of the heresay inspired, vitriol spewing, foaming masses who will never ever buy another game from steam as long as they live or unless there's a good weekend sale on because who can resist a bargain like that?
Amusingly of course if steam had decent support, it might all be avoided

Why? Aside from the name, why would you automatically assume the CarCo 2009 Deathtrap SE was any worse than any other overpriced luxury deathtrap? When looking at Steam, there is not ONE thing that screams out "This is shit!". Quite the opposite actually, a good sized catalogue of games both old and new and often for a half decent price (unless you live in europe).

I have NEVER, ONCE, had any problems with Steam, ever, and i've been using it since day one.I think a lotta people just don't know how to keep their machines in check, so they blame Steam for it.Most computer users are pretty ignorant. The whole DRM IS EVIL AND WILL DESTROY YOUR SYSTEM!!! argument is pretty overblown too.

TheCheese33: I know people don't like the man but that's kind of a dickish thing to say.

I know it was too hard and I am sorry for that. I had a bad day, but that's another story.
However IMO when one (Gabe) is a mere hypocrite, he doesn't deserve that much decency.

When has Gabe been a hypocrite?

PoSSeSSeDCoW: When has Gabe been a hypocrite?

Probably you know this topic.
But it did not give him any problems to say this.
What is it if not hypoctisy?

Two unrelated events?
The $ = euro thing is annoying But, it has jack all to do with the article you linked to.
Basically, all Newell was saying was basic microeconomics (quantity demanded is greater for lower prices). This likely means that they sell less of their stuff in Europe, but that is completely irrelevant to the article you posted.
I can understand why you might think the two are linked. But they aren't. It is really apples and oranges. Yeah, they are both fruit, but they aren't the same thing.

Dude that very post is ignorant assuming a lot of people dont know how to even use their machines. I fail to see how keeping your machine in working order has anything to do with Steam hiding what DRM is used and disabling accounts.
As for the point that people go from loving to hating Steam over one problem I think that is because we DO like the service but it's only when a problem occurs that you find out how bad Steam's support is. Poor customer service will have me complaining and good customer service will have me praising. Thats not hard to understand surely?
I also hope that it's not true that StingingVelvet was sorted out before I was simply because he is a US customer. After all as a European I actually pay up to 50% more for each game therefore I deserve exactly the same level of service. If Valve are only interested in supporting the US customers then they should only sell games in the US.

I'll take your word for it because you come across as a real expert on the subject of ignorance...
