bansama: Actually, if you do that, Support tend to disable your account until you appologise to them.

Delixe: Like I said I am I really nice person.

How can that be? You're Irish!

Good that we cleared that up.

Delixe: I was being sarcastic. My actual subject line was 'Account Disabled' and the message was just 'Tried logging in to my account and it tells me my account is disabled, can I please have a reason for this?'
Like I said I am I really nice person. I just get annoyed when I get put on the long finger.

I would resend the message just in case it was lost somewhere along the way.

Now we both know that has not happened as I got the automated e-mail saying the complaint was in their system.

Maybe the ticket landed on the desk of Lazy Ted. And we both know how he acquired that nickname.

Union guys like Valve's Lazy Ted and Nokia's Scruffy still do their jobs even if its just to the letter.
Maybe I am being punished because I started Scumbag Saturday on Twitter? #SS @GabeNewell @Steampowered. They should be honored they started a whole new hashtag.

StingingVelvet: Steam must fall.

And on that day, another Weclock was born, this time less hairy.
avatar
Delixe: I was being sarcastic.

I'm sure you were. The sad thing is, I wasn't.
One other thing, what ever you do, don't update your ticket or submit another one until you get a response. They tend to place tickets to the back of the queue otherwise -- then you'll be waiting even longer for an answer.
Yes, Steam support is basically run by petty 5 year old monkeys.

StingingVelvet: I always understood the Steam hate but was never passionate about it, and I tended to buy Steam games when they were on sale or had a good preorder deal.
Well, no more.
I got Risen from Steam and while it did not list any 3rd party DRM on the store page, it has TAGES with activation. On top of Steam activation, of course. The real kick in the pants? Retail version only has a disc check. WTF?
Anyway, not listing it is pretty disgusting, especially since it is different from the retail version. I sent them a support email telling them what a good, long-time customer I am with over 100 games on their service and asked for a refund so I can get the retail version instead.
They told me to jump off a cliff, basically.
Some people are calling their card companies and getting the charge reversed as the card companies agree it is a "clear case of fraud." I know if I do this I will lose my account though, and 100 games I "own."
So, ok, I see the light.
Steam must fall.

You can most DEFINITELY get this refunded, if nothing else this would be considared false advertising, since valve have established the listing of DRM's on the game's info page. Trust me, if your Credit Card has already paid them, just get on the horn with support, explain your case carefully and politely, and they *will* refund it.
avatar
korell: In any case, you say you won't reverse the charge on your credit card as you'll lose your games, but you've also said Steam must fall and if Steam falls you will also lose your games.

Not really, remember, a "Valve Employee" that NOONE can provide a name for, nor cite, has stated that Steam will magically "De-Steam" all user's games by offering modified *.exe's shortly before going tits up.
BTW, I have a sale on bridges, if anyone is interested.
PSS: The only SAFE way to buy games on Steam I have realized is to have a seperate account for EVERY game. That way, if an account is disabled, it only "kills" one game.

With a rare few exceptions, ALL tech support I've encountered is run by 5 year old monkeys
avatar
Gundato: So, exactly like with every other retail services/outlet? :p
avatar
Navagon: Exactly. You have to do your research no matter where you buy from. That's the bane of being a PC gamer while this DRM bullshit is still doing the rounds.
Steam is basically just an online store with a mandatory client. They're not Good New Games.

Steam are completely unique, since they have the ability (for now) to take back ALL purchased subscriptions (Read: Games) for ANY arbitrary reason at their discretion, with NO apppeal. I have said it before, Steam PRETENDS to be like Impulse or Gamersgate, but in reality they are an overpriced gametap.

Truth! Usually it's only in some of the better small companies that you find decent tech support.

anjohl: PSS: The only SAFE way to buy games on Steam I have realized is to have a seperate account for EVERY game. That way, if an account is disabled, it only "kills" one game.

Actually, Valve can, and often do, disable all connected accounts. So even if you have a separate account for each game, you can still lose all your accounts unless you somehow find a way to ensure that they can never link your accounts together...
avatar
DarrkPhoenix: Now, Steam may very well be in the wrong if they then lock your account, but to get anything done about it you'd have to take the matter to court, which would probably take over a year to get sorted out and cost you much more in lawyer fees than the game collection you're trying to get back is worth.
avatar
Delixe: You only lose money if you lose the case. I would imagine if the credit cards call it fraud and then Steam terminate your account for refusing to pay for a scam you would win as clearly you are in the right according to Steam's own T&C's.

Class action? How many pre-ordered Batman and Risen I wonder? Get both groups together, class action lawsuit could pay a nice settlement.
