We've been announcing this to all and sundry, but if you still didn't know - The Witcher Enhanced Edition is now available on GOG.com! And because, we here at GOG.com like to stir things a little, so to show you how much we love The Witcher franchise we’re running a two week promo starting now.

Before venturing into [url=http://www.gog.com/tw2]The Witcher 2 world and continuing Geralt’s epic story, stop by and check out how it all began with the award winning CD Projekt RED's foray into PC game development. The Witcher is an action-RPG, based on a best selling fantasy saga written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The game features the titular witchers who are monster hunters for hire with supernatural powers. You will be controlling Geralt, one of the witchers, in the rich, deep and enthralling medieval fantasy world created by Sapkowski. Starting the game, Geralt remembers nothing. Kaer Morhen, the last remaining keep of the witchers, was attacked by a mysterious organization, and although the attack has been repulsed the secret recipe for the mutagen, a substance required to create more of your kind, has been stolen. You know what you have to do right? To give you a tip, we'll say you will be fighting ferocious monsters with the help of a revolutionizing and award winning combat system and saving damsels in distress.

During the next two weeks we have a special promo and The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut is available for you with a 50% discount and will cost you only 4.99$! Can you really resist such great deal?

Red_Avatar: If anyone is playing this for the first time and needs some starting tips:

- don't collect more than 10 flint stones. Throw the rest out

- always keep one piece of food in your inventory. Food is pretty pointless to loot but sometimes you can use it for a quest or to get someone to talk

- the inn keeper has a storage chest (not so in act 1 I think, but definitely from act 2 onwards) -- use it to store gift items, etc.

- many items can only be sold to specific people. For books, look for an antiquary for example. So never just throw them away after using them!

- buy plant book as soon as possible - the quicker you can harvest plants, the better. Potions make a huge difference! (especially in the fight with the Beast which is the hardest part of the game)

- choices MATTER! Be careful what decisions you make because they will come back to bite you in the ass a few hours later.

- every enemy has weaknesses - if you gather info (from dialog or books), you can consult it inside the game. It will tell you how you can easily take an enemy down. This makes a big big difference!

- when drunk, you walk very slowly. A "trick" is to take out your sword, letting you rush ahead anyway.

- play as many dice games as possible. I noticed that, if you don't, you'll never have enough gold to buy the needed books until later on. Loading upon a loss and saving on a win is the obvious tactic.

- the boxing championships aren't really worth bothering with - the pay is very low. With a dice game you can make 200+ orens, with fighting maybe 40-50 a fight. While fighting is a sure-win, it's also less fun.

- time your quests - many quests are based on day or night. Its smart to do all the day things first, because they often lead to night things. It will avoid you having to constantly meditate to get the next bit of quest.

There's more, but these are off the top of my head ;)
Wow this is great tips.. Thanks
Just bought it. But I can't download it! The GoG's downloader suddenly doesn't recognize my address/password anymore (but the site does, obviously I'm connected). Anyone else has this problem?
Is it due to a sudden massive download of the Witcher?

GameRager: The downloader has trouble with passwords using non numeric/alpha characters....change your pwd and you should be fine.
Thanks for your help :) but my password contain only numbers and letters. (And it has worked perfectly till now, I own quite a few games) I'll try to change it anyway... Perhaps it will work.

Edit: Changed it, tried it... Still unrecognised.
RE-Edit: oooki, now later on everyone has the same problem.

I just bought this (again, just because it's DRM free!) and had my first experience with the new downloader.

The downloader is downloading full throttle at 6MB/s (awesome), but wow... Seriously? It's also combining parts, and crc checking *at the same time*? Three disk-intensive activities at once? My poor poor hard drive actuator arm. :(

Can we get an option to not have everything happen at once? I could imagine if this happened on someone's laptop with a single 4200 RPM drive and a small amount of RAM requiring frequent swapping to the page file. The downloader would probably bring the machine to its knees...

Great game though, and a great value. Thanks GOG! :)

Got no debit card, I have used only Visa but PSN issue was quite a reason to block it for good. Currently I just have no time to go to bank for new one.

Hehe yes I am aware about that, however I am not waiting for a miracle, promo ends soon so I think I will check with few folks later this week and see what they can do for me. Maybe next week I will find some time to visit bank for new visa card.

Hmm, the GOG downloader stopped downloading the game at 2252 MB. I have win7 and NTFS filesystem so the filesize should not be an issue. Even pausing and resuming the download does not work.

Edit: I restarted the downloader, now it does not recognize my password. No, I will not change my password for a bugged downloader.

come on, just download it tomorrow... EVERYONE is downloading it right now.
Nice, I wasn't expecting this to happen so early, this sort of thing usually happens between 5:00 and 7:00 where I am, and it's currently 1:00, so that was a bit of a surprise!

I used the new downloader earlier to get Total Annihilation Kingdoms and it worked like a charm, but now I'm unable to log in with it for some reason. I'll type my info, the box will disappear, and then it just reappears again and again, and even after upgrading from 0.9.0.1336 to 0.9.0.1372 it's still doing it...
Just downloaded the game, I wonder when we can expect The Witcher 2 pre-purchase thingy to be available?

I suspect they disabled downloader because of the traffic or something... You can still download using the browser.

GameRager: Spoilers tags would've been nice. :\
Djeesh people are getting touchy about game spoilers - it's a 4 year old game and nothing I said could even be remotely seen as a spoiler yet people STILL complain?
Hey, now I have three copies of The Witcher!
