We've been announcing this to all and sundry, but if you still didn't know - The Witcher Enhanced Edition is now available on GOG.com! And because, we here at GOG.com like to stir things a little, so to show you how much we love The Witcher franchise we’re running a two week promo starting now.

Before venturing into [url=http://www.gog.com/tw2]The Witcher 2 world and continuing Geralt’s epic story, stop by and check out how it all began with the award winning CD Projekt RED's foray into PC game development. The Witcher is an action-RPG, based on a best selling fantasy saga written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The game features the titular witchers who are monster hunters for hire with supernatural powers. You will be controlling Geralt, one of the witchers, in the rich, deep and enthralling medieval fantasy world created by Sapkowski. Starting the game, Geralt remembers nothing. Kaer Morhen, the last remaining keep of the witchers, was attacked by a mysterious organization, and although the attack has been repulsed the secret recipe for the mutagen, a substance required to create more of your kind, has been stolen. You know what you have to do right? To give you a tip, we'll say you will be fighting ferocious monsters with the help of a revolutionizing and award winning combat system and saving damsels in distress.

During the next two weeks we have a special promo and The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut is available for you with a 50% discount and will cost you only 4.99$! Can you really resist such great deal?

DeadlyRamon: Insta buy for me, too, though I already own the original DVD collector's version in addition to the digital Steam director's cut. I vow today to start the game anew, and when I finally beat it (for my very first time), it will be on the GoG version!
Stick it in man. I had to take a break after chapter 2 for a few weeks before I could sink my teeth back into it (It is quite a long game) but it was worth it!

SWorD84: Yeah! Insta-Buy!
I bought it before there was a news post. 6:51 GMT. Ha ha.
Thanks, GOG!!!
The combat system becomes very enjoyable once you've mastered the basics. Just make sure you don't play your first game in hard difficulty (it deactivates an indicator that is very useful for a beginner), read through the tutorial messages carefully, and stick with the game for an hour or two, don't give up after your first fight. Keep in mind that chaining combos gives Geralt an edge in combat, but you can still win most battles (especially in easy difficulty) without using combos : just use the right sword and/or right spell for a given enemy, and you'll be fine.

I already own a boxed copy of The Witcher, but I'm very tempted to buy it again from GOG. At such a price, I'll gift a copy or two, that's for sure.
GOG's bank account must go AAAAAAARGH!!! right now :D

IS there a difference between ENHANCED EDITION and DIRECTOR'S CUT? What are the DIFFERENCES?

I've been told they're identical (director's cut means no censorship)
high rated
If anyone is playing this for the first time and needs some starting tips:

- don't collect more than 10 flint stones. Throw the rest out

- always keep one piece of food in your inventory. Food is pretty pointless to loot but sometimes you can use it for a quest or to get someone to talk

- the inn keeper has a storage chest (not so in act 1 I think, but definitely from act 2 onwards) -- use it to store gift items, etc.

- many items can only be sold to specific people. For books, look for an antiquary for example. So never just throw them away after using them!

- buy plant book as soon as possible - the quicker you can harvest plants, the better. Potions make a huge difference! (especially in the fight with the Beast which is the hardest part of the game)

- choices MATTER! Be careful what decisions you make because they will come back to bite you in the ass a few hours later.

- every enemy has weaknesses - if you gather info (from dialog or books), you can consult it inside the game. It will tell you how you can easily take an enemy down. This makes a big big difference!

- when drunk, you walk very slowly. A "trick" is to take out your sword, letting you rush ahead anyway.

- play as many dice games as possible. I noticed that, if you don't, you'll never have enough gold to buy the needed books until later on. Loading upon a loss and saving on a win is the obvious tactic.

- the boxing championships aren't really worth bothering with - the pay is very low. With a dice game you can make 200+ orens, with fighting maybe 40-50 a fight. While fighting is a sure-win, it's also less fun.

- time your quests - many quests are based on day or night. Its smart to do all the day things first, because they often lead to night things. It will avoid you having to constantly meditate to get the next bit of quest.

There's more, but these are off the top of my head ;)

GameRager: I know....it's more me asking for the random kindness of strangers though. If it helps, I could pay anyone who buys it for me back with a 9.999 Gog on the 1st of June.
PM sent. Check your (brand new) GOG inbox.
