We hope you've been busy playing Might and Magic 7, because its sequel is now officially part of our rapidly expanding collection of games!

Might and Magic 8: Day of the Destroyer is a first-person perspective role-playing game and is the last game of the series with such strong ties to its predecessors. Most notably, its engine is based on that of the classic Might and Magic 6, with most of the familiar mechanics remaining, for the most part, unchanged.
The story, closely tied to the previous Might and Magic games and also Heroes of Might and Magic 3, is enthralling and full of exploration, great dialog and puzzles and, of course, is accompanied by a wonderful soundtrack.
Acromage, the card mini-game you should remember from the prequel, is present in the eight installment as well, with a few alterations, and is still as addictive as ever.
The biggest difference between this game and its predecessors is that you don't have to create an entire party right at the start. You're free to recruit new members for your party and change its composition at will. You can even have a dragon as one of your companions.
So if you haven't finished Might and Magic 7 yet, do it quickly (without sacrificing the experience, of course!) and witness the next chapter of the story.

svmariscal: As someone who never played M&M9, I'd like to know why all the hate. Apart from the obvious change of graphic engine, how is different from M&M6-8? I mean gameplay-related and all.
The game wasn't finished.

Literally, a TON of stuff was planned and it was being actively worked on, but the publisher decided it had to go on the shelves NOW so it got just fixed up enough to be playable and then got kicked out the door.

It's incredibly simple, devoid of any life, empty, and clearly months from completion. If you ever played Ultima IX, it's a similar situation here.

xa_chan: I've searched for it a long time, then finally asked myself this question: has Might and Magic VIII EVER been released in France? I've never seen it in any shop, but I still could find MM 6, 7 and 9...
Yes it has.
This review from jeuxvideo*com was about a complete french version of the game: Here
(Despite the fact that the title remained in english).

And it has been scarcely distributed, as you can see by the price it solds now: There you go

Now that I come to think about it, I believe I have a boxed french edition somewhere buried in the mountain of my humongous PC games collection...

Also, it seems you can download a patch which will translate to French the original version of M&MVIII (if it's still there) : This way

I actually liked Ultima IX, but that might be because I'm a Ultima lover.
Also, for some reason when somebody mentions M&M 9 I keep thinking about Wizards & Warriors.. maybe it's just the similar abbreviation.

Cheers :)
I never played any of M&M games (just HOMM) but I would be very excited if Ubisoft agrred to publish Eye of the Beholder games on GOG. Does anyone knows if Ubisoft has rights to DarkSun as well?

As far as I know, the EoB series was developed by Westwood (acquired by EA), so no Ubisoft related at all. Where did you get that information?

Thanks for the tip, now I'll be able to play in french with my english GOG version! ^_^

EDIT> Well, I did everything that was written on the web site, but with the renamed french files, the game just crashes at the 3DO logo...

Ubisoft has the rights of anything D&D related.

Yes, according to Wikipedia, Ubisoft got rights to Startegis Simulations Inc. games in 2001 and Beholders and other D&D titles are on the list of games published by SSI. Together with great Warhammer 40K games like Chaos Gate or Final Liberation (from Epic 40K).
I hope to see them on GOG one day.

I stand corrected then, and happily so I might add. Count me in as another EoB petitioner :-D

Sorry I really can't help you there, I have not tried it. There is a thread on GoG's forums dedicated to this kind of things: Here
Perhaps you'll find explanations and help here?

Also... why my links are all sending back to this very page remains a mystery to me...

Because the address needs to be between the "". The tag can't be empty.
The text between "]" and "[/" can be anything.

Huh, I always thought EA had the rights. Good news indeed!
