We hope you've been busy playing Might and Magic 7, because its sequel is now officially part of our rapidly expanding collection of games!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/might_and_magic_8_day_of_the_destroyer]Might and Magic 8: Day of the Destroyer is a first-person perspective role-playing game and is the last game of the series with such strong ties to its predecessors. Most notably, its engine is based on that of the classic Might and Magic 6, with most of the familiar mechanics remaining, for the most part, unchanged.
The story, closely tied to the previous Might and Magic games and also Heroes of Might and Magic 3, is enthralling and full of exploration, great dialog and puzzles and, of course, is accompanied by a wonderful soundtrack.
Acromage, the card mini-game you should remember from the prequel, is present in the eight installment as well, with a few alterations, and is still as addictive as ever.
The biggest difference between this game and its predecessors is that you don't have to create an entire party right at the start. You're free to recruit new members for your party and change its composition at will. You can even have a dragon as one of your companions.
So if you haven't finished Might and Magic 7 yet, do it quickly (without sacrificing the experience, of course!) and witness the next chapter of the story.

tejozaszaszas: If GOG release M&M 9 I think I will buy it anyway... But only during a promo, of course.
I got the retail version for... 2 euro. :D

I got retail version for almost 1/4 of the GOG games that I have, and I have 120.

What that means: GOG won't release MM9? or GOG will sell $6 this beta game?
Both are bad (selling $6 this unfinished product is theft).
Definitely the weakest of the M&M games to use this engine. It's perfectly alright for what it is, but if you're expecting something great in the vein of VI or VII, you'll be sorely disappointed. For one, Dragons break the game, and for another the interchangeable party system means that any sense of progression goes out the window for everyone except your main character.

Oddly enough, I think I'd rather purchase Might and Magic IX. Not because it's good (actually, it's fairly mediocre even with the TELP patch), but because I never actually owned it and I have weird completionist tendencies for stuff like this.

I enjoyed MM9, much more than MM8 to be honest, I bought it retail and would happily pay $6 for a replacement.

It was a big dissapointment to be missing the sci-fi elements from the earlier series but it was still a solid game.

But each to their own :)
I think M&M7 was my favorite RPG, just possibly second to FF7. I'm excited to try M&M8, especially for the wonderful Arcomage card game, which spellcheck doesn't auto-correct to Acromage, so there is no excuse for the misspelling.

blueskirt42: And now let's hope GOG will skip the infamously horrible Might And Magic IX (It's called Good Old Games, not Bad Old Games).
Not much chance of that.

Master of Orion 3
Blood 2
Simon the Sorcerer 3D

...

Yeah, M&M 9 will fit right in.

Might and Magic 9 isnt that bad. It has some bugs, but they were already addressed in a past patch. overall, it's very fun. I would like to see arrive here.

Leroux: If Dark Messiah of M&M is just as good as Arx Fatalis at the very least, that would be an instant buy for me here at GOG, regardless of the price! :)
It's kind of like Arx without most of the depth. Enjoyable in different and similar ways.

You do wonder why all the enemies decide to stand next to pointy things that you can kick them into a lot though.

Haha, now I want to play.

Because you're playing as Sir Kicksalot Deathboot in the Land of the Conspicuously Placed Spike Racks.
As someone who never played M&M9, I'd like to know why all the hate. Apart from the obvious change of graphic engine, how is different from M&M6-8? I mean gameplay-related and all.
MM9 is next, I suppose. I wish they'd do Anvil of Dawn instead. Out of the 3DO catalogue it's one of the least known, but better than the later MM games.
