The Evil is back! Thanks to the sequel to the acclaimed Dungeon Keeper you can be even nastier.

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/dungeon_keeper_2]Dungeon Keeper 2 is Bullfrog’s second take on the masterpiece blend of real-time strategy with elements of sim, RPG and first person action game. Once again you take the role of the main Bad Guy. You have to build an underground empire, set deadly traps, recruit armies of brainless minions, and show the good-natured (bleh!) heroes where their place is: six feet under! And with even greater selection of traps and monsters it's now easier than ever. So train your army well (or slap them into submission) to expand your evil empire from the undergrounds to the realms above.

rhinox: Ok I'll calm down :). It's just I've been waiting soooooo loooooong for this game to come here and now I get this. I will wait for a fix one week, if there isn't any... I'm sorry but I will have to demand a refund :(.
Not sure a refund will work with a DRM free game. Just saying...

Firek: We're looking deeper into this problem and it seems to be limited to ATI cards and only with accelerated graphics enabled (disabled by default). We opted to set the graphics to software by default, as software rendering is generally more stable in older games.
Right now the game is fully playable and enjoyable, although the visuals look slightly better on non-ATI cards. We will do our best to trick the game into using accelerated graphics correctly on all systems, however the problem may lie in ATI drivers' backwards compatibility, in which case our options are even more limited (without access to the game's source code).
We will let you know once we have any updates.

Ryuji: You might find it's not only limited to ati, having exact same issues with my nvidia 260gtx (win7 64x, Q6600)
Same here, nVidia GeForce GTX 260, Windows Vista 64-bit (sp2) so it's not just limited to ATI.

Well some re-compensation would be required because atm. the bought product doesn't work in my case.

There is always a credit reversal or dispute with paypal. In the end they didn't deliver as they've stated on their page which makes me think it was just let out or they had a slip in the testing department.

I supported GoG to play not to fix the problems to be able to play and even then it's not nice.

the same ed I have on my CDs = same issues. It occasionally crashes on Win 7... xD Still, a must-have

P.S. I shall play it, for why should I abandon a game I have played for years DESPITE issues it has?...

Would be nice if EA made the game open source. The community could try to fix the issues that still linger in the game, and EA could keep their copyright on the game's assets and keep on selling it.
When have they ever really, knowingly, steered you wrong?

Well, there was that whole "we're closing" ill-advised charade that when over like a truckload of bricks. :D

I give GOG credit for being able to land this title (or any EA games, given EA's views on DRM) at all, so I'm keeping my rage about it not working under Win7 in check.
As has been aready said, I've found the game works perfectly if you play it with the default options. I have an i7 and amd 5970, with windows 7 64 bits. I know we all would prefer otherwise, and be able to activate max resolution and other graphic options, but the game works, and sincerely, I don't buy this kind of games for their graphics, or we would buy and play modern games, don't you think?
I've been messing with my retail CD version again and actually got it working fairly decent now by forcing the software rendering. The software mode is kinda shite, especially with dropping to 10 fps when certain visual effects occur, but it works and is playable.

From what i've seen in this thread GOG's version has software rendering enabled by default, so if you leave it at that you shouldn't have problems with the game.

*EDIT* Forcing resolutions above 1024x768 seems to make it extremely unstable, so don't do that either.

rhinox: You don't have access to the source code!?!?! OMG this is so wrong, so generally speaking it's the same god damn game that is out in the market without any fixes whatsoever. This is not the GoG I signed up for.
The fuck? This isn't wrong, this is normal. No publisher gets the source, just the vanilla game files. GOG is already trying to do the best they can and also I really doubt that Bullfrog Productions still has the code and / or would create a patch for a 12 year old game.

Anyways...Here's an unofficial patch

There's also an unofficial 1.8 patch: http://keeperklan.com/threads/730-Unofficial-Patch-1.8-RELEASE (check page 5 for working download link)

Both fan patches break campaign mode (at least end of level 1); but they should improve multiplayer and custom maps.

The game was always unstable on most systems; I bought it years ago and played it on a P3 with a TNT2 and it still crashed all the time. I've been having somewhat better luck playing it under Wine in Linux, and others have reported the same thing - so if that's an option for you, try it.

That is interesting.

Why then are they advertising it as Vista/7 compatible if the game hasn't been changed a bit and is known to have problems on modern hardware. The number of topics regarding the stability says it all. I always thought that gog is given the source to try to fix things if there are obvious problems. It looks though that if dosbox or dxwnd can't help they still push it out in the open in hope that maybe some buys it and will have no problems.
Who know how to fix this error?
