Went down the memory lane--got pulled over for speeding.

Retro City Rampage, a nostalgic tribute to the 1980s that looks like a NES game and plays a lot like classic Grand Theft Auto, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $7.49 for the next 24 hours!

1980s were colorful, loud, strange, and sometimes a little bit awkward. They brought us many great things like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Back to the Future movies, G.I. Joe 3.75" action-figures, DuckTales, as well as most of GOG.com staff members. On the other hand, they also gave us Milli Vannilli, Boomboxes, acid wash denim, The Mullet hairdo, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial on Atari 2600. The period had its ups and downs but the roots of gaming geeks' community remain firmly planted in those colorful times. Here's a game that takes you on a high-speed trip down the memory lane!

Retro City Rampage is an ambicious and succesful attempt to pay a homage to the 1980s' era gaming and popular culture. Ten years in the making, this game offers 60 varied missions in the main campaign, 45 special challenges, about 40 different vehicles, 25 weapons and gadgets, and 2,5 hours of top-notch chiptune music. It's also so full of nostalgic references to games, movies, music, and characters, that it's hard to put a number on them. The thought that most of this titanic effort can be attributed to just one man's love, dedication, and passion, is simply astounding. Brian Provinciano, the man behind Vblank Entertainment, invites you on a trip back in time you won't soon forget!

Bring out the nostalgia cannons! Let the explosive funtime begin! Get Retro City Rampage, for only $7.49 on GOG.com, until Thursday, February 21, at 10:59AM GMT.
I've been interested in this game since I first heard about it a while back.

Erich_Zann: Thanks Skunk.
I'm buying Hocus Pocus right now instead, if only as some sort of idiotic customer counter-statement.
Lame "get it ? We're nerds as well !" humour makes me feel all full of bloodlust.
Is that a hooded Cobra Commander avatar? YOU ROCK!

That's me.
And I want you
Remembers me that there never was any GI-JOE video game. Me disappointed.

NES had a good Joe game (The Atlantis Factor) but it was hard as hell. In fact I have a rom for it on my NES emulator. According to the GOG description Rampage actually touches on it. FYI I just changed my wallpaper to CC after seeing your avatar. One day we will have to sit down and see who bought more of that stuff, you or me. :P

I'm waiting for a sale on Hocus Pocus because I'm cheap like that, but yeah, I liked that game much more than Retro City Rampage. I should have known what was coming when one of the previews had the creator uncomfortably giddy with satisfaction while talking about the first twenty minutes of the game and it's explaining it's chain of quick gags, but I still couldn't see how an open-world 8-bit styled GTA homage to the 80's and gaming could be... well, this.
Waiting for a $5 sale. I know I sound like a broken record, but $5 is my dividing line between impulse buys and agonizing over purchases.

Or maybe I'll just watch a let's play series of it on youtube. I took that route for Super Amazing Wagon Adventure :p
I never got to play it thoroughly, as far as I've seen this game is great fun.

Winijaw82: I got this for free on my PS3 through PS+ a few weeks ago.
This. Great deal.
I kind of asked this this morning.

Before I buy has anyone had any problems running this yet? I realize by it's size and genre it SHOULD run on anything but my pc is a little dated so I want to make sure. If it was $3 I wouldn't care but it's not so I'm asking.
Thanks

I ran it just fine on a netbook. If your computer can outdo an ASUS Aspire One D260 netbook, you'll be fine :D

I spent many hours of youth playing the Commodore 64 GI Joe game, and as someone else mentioned there was another for the NES.

Also I'm pretty sure there was a 360/PS3 game based on the recent movies.
Does this game have built-in controller support? I can't see myself playing this kind of game on a keyboard/mouse combo, I'll be honest.

Yep, it supports a Xbox 360-compatible controller.
Must admit, I was really disappointed by this game.
