Here are the most important things to keep in mind, for now:

Some players are Town, some players are Mafia. Mafia is trying to eliminate Town, Town is trying to eliminate Mafia. Town can vote on one person to lynch during the day, and Mafia picks someone to kill during the night. Twist is, none of us knows the alignment of anyone else. So it's a game about trying to read people and figure out what's going on. This isn't everything you need to know by any means, but it's the basic setup for the game.

At the moment, none of us have anything to work with, so we're just throwing out random votes (known as "RVS stage"). Since this is only my second game, I'm not sure exactly how/why RVS gets things going... but it's traditional... :P. Plus it gives people a chance to do some friendly needling of other players that they know from previous games. For instance, in game 9 I was completely convinced that Red_Baron was mafia, and was confidently hollering it from the rooftops...until he died and ended up being town -___-. So naturally...RVS Red_Baron!

It's overwhelming at first... but just try to go with the flow. And most importantly... NEVER TAKE WHAT'S SAID OR DONE HERE PERSONALLY. Don't be hurt or angry if someone starts putting pressure on you for something that seems inconsequential, and don't feel like people are ganging up on you. That's just part of the game.

Also while on the topic, never take anything said in the game to serious as well.. remember everyone might have a hidden agenda. For instance, in game 10 I flooded the while thing in a wild attempt to prove something due to me in fact not being town and due to a general for the heck of it :) But still even though I attempted to sound convincing, mad, frustrated so on so forth, none of it was real and was meant as an attempt to seem real in order not to be taken for what I really was in that game.. a third-party role who had just killed the town doctor.

Also people's playstyle vary a lot, some make judgments based upon that (which can be an advantage for new players, but also a problem since they can't make judgments themselves by the same standards).

Mostly it comes down to noticing inconsistencies, making conclusion/theories about the setup of the game and trying to make a general sense of it all. Also the flavor both from your own role and from night-kills, lynch scenes and the beginning might provide clues one can use to spot others.

An example: I could argue that since this is a music festival we only have one person who is clearly part of such a thing: SirPrimalForm with his guitar (the avatar). As such he could be a evil guitar player with some sort of hatred towards the now dead guy.

He would then counter by saying that since has a guitar he couldn't be the killer (drumsticks from flavor) and maybe argue that a fat ballet dancer is more likely to pick up a weapon to use...

My defense could be that I clearly am too pink to do such a thing.. and so forth. Hope you get the idea about flavor use and stuff people have told which one can use later

Voting patterns might also give you something to go on.

Final note: It would be a bit unusual to judge someone scum based on avatars ;) So don't put too much into that. It was partly a joke - but method is what should be noted.

Also if you are just playing the part of confusion and maybe even are Xyem then hats of for well played act. As said, never trust anyone in a game of mafia.
